A little preview for ya... this is what the one-way sections of the BVP look like from the cockpit of your bike.

Hey, I wasn't going 200 when I took the photo. I'm not ######ed, I wouldn't have been going more than 100 while taking a picture. I think the speed limit is 60, IIRC.
But yeah, what arloiginla said... lots of critters in the park... big ones. And cops. And park ranger wannabe cops. So getting carried away is asking for trouble. Not to mention, it's not particularly twisty, and motorcycles are made to perform in the corners. Any idiot can go fast in a straight line.

Since when does a 19 year old need advice on how to drive somewhere? Get in the damn car and drive. When you get hungry, stop in the next town for fast food. When you get thirsty grab a slurpee. If you get munchie grab chips. If you see something cool stop and look. If you run out of gas start pushing. It's what being 19 is all about. Planning is for when you get old.

Making the drive this Friday. I usually fly, but this time it's a road trip with the boys. I just hope I don't get too blinded out there from all the Ed Hardy T-Shirts

Get a book on CD or download one to help pass the time. I'm planning on making this trip this summer but won't be able to follow my own advice as I'll be on my couch on wheels, my Honda Gold Wing. You guys who ride sports bikes should try it.

Nice, the Gold Wing will be awesome for the long journey. Just sit back, relax and let the road take you. The motorhome of bikes.

I wouldn't recommend 200 though, hitting a moose at that speed generally doesn't end well.
|
I wouldn't, the chances of an animal coming out are probably pretty good and it isn't worth risking it.
I got to go to Germany if I want to do 200.

Hitting a moose at any speed on a bike doesn't end well, at least at 200 you won't feel a thing and you take the ####### with you.

The front straight at Race City is closer. Sign up for a track school day once you've got a season or two under your tires.

I would even go so far as to say hitting a moose on anything doesnt end well. those ####ers are huge and will destroy your vehicle

The only thing I would add, is try to go there and come back during daylight hours. Driving in the Golden stretch of the highway at night isn't recommended as the road is a bit narrow with a lot turns, and also expect a lot of transport trucks sharing the road.

I drove that stretch during at night during a blinding February blizzard with one windshield wiper working. No worries. I kept it on the road by following the marker lights of a particular tractor trailer. Probably owe that driver a coffee... or a hand job.

Sorry to bump this thread. I didn't want to hijack Darklord's Seattle/Vancouver one.
I read through all the comments, and got some great advice.
I'm just wondering if we're taking our time to drive from Vancouver to Calgary, where should we stop along the way either for 1 night or for 2 stopovers?
Kamloops and Revelstoke seems like natural places to stop in. However, places like Salmon Arm or making a pit stop in Kelowna seems like a good idea as well?
Also, any other places on places to see, or good scenic path to take would be appreciated.
This is for August by the way, so hopefully road conditions are agreeable then

Last time I drove to Vancouver was mid-August 2010. Traffic wasn't bad at all, except waiting for a lane to open up to past those semi trucks.
Left Calgary at 4pm and got to Kamloops just before midnight, where we met up with my in-laws. I'm sure others would make better time if they didn't have 3 little ones.
