Technically Just Energy isnt a scam, but it isn't saving you any money in most cases.
If the door-to-door people claim it will save you money, that's something that Just Energy specifically says you cannot tell potential customers. If it is happening, it likely has to do with the shady company they are contracting to do the work.

Just had the punks come to my door in Shaganappi.
Told him I wasn't interested, then the guy said "Oh you must love those hidden fees?" So I slammed the door in their faces after asking if they were "Just Energy".

Agreed, it's not a scam in that it's actually going to cost you way more (it may, it may not)... it's a scam in how they get you to sign on, basically telling you you're missing out on savings with your current company, so let's give you those savings... here, sign this. Oh by the way we'll bill you now and you're locked in for 5yrs.

Anything that relies on high pressure sales pitches and the hope that you don't understand that you have ten days to get out of the contract when buyers' remorse sets in is a scam.

Given that their opening is typically along the lines of "we're just checking that you're receiving the rebate on your energy bill" I'm gonna just continue to call it a scam.
Yes I fully understand that selling utility contracts is perfectly legal and on paper it's simply competition for your utility dollars. But the people showing up at your front door are using a very misleading script, which given the consistency of the "are you receiving the rebate?" statement it's far from a few bad apples/contractors.

A buddy alleges to have talked to these guys here in Lethbridge the other night. He told them "no" and they kept going on. So my friend quickly changed the topic and said "Can I show you my penis?". The guy was startled and refused, but my friend insisted that his penis was top notch and worth a look at. The guy again told him "no", so my friend said "So, you mean no means no?" The guy got the point, wished him a nice night and walked away. Given the guy who told the story I'm skeptical about it's validity but a funny scenario nonetheless.

You must be in Macleod Place then? I do leasing for that building and it always kills when I go to show the vacancies and the Just Energy employees are out front smoking and just generally bring the building down.

These salesman and their pitch is most definitely a scam. Unfortunately, it's not illegal. That wouldn't stop me from calling the cops on them if they come to my door.

I like when they came to my place and had 3 people. The lady doing the pressuring, her "bodyguard" as she called him standing behind her, and some creeper hiding around the corner of my garage.

It's funny, but he could be charged for that, so if it did happen I'd caution him from doing that again.

I don't know if I want to live in a country where I can't offer to show my penis to strangers on the front steps of my own home.

I have never had anyone I know come to my front door without calling or texting first.
As a result, when the doorbell rings it's either a salesperson, or a charity requesting donations. On rare occasions, it'll be a neighbor asking why their car was towed (they didn't get one of the 40,000 letters about street cleaning), or if I've seen their dog (I haven't).
I therefore avoid answering the door. It's a similar principle to not having a landline, and not picking up unknown numbers on the cell. If it's something "official" it'll be mailed, or they'll leave a message. If it's an emergency, screaming will accompany the banging of the front door.
My time at home is important, and not to be wasted on salespersons.

I like it when you can check the peephole and see who it is before opening the door. I have typically been opening the door while saying "Get off the porch. Get off the porch, now." If they don't do it I just say "I'm not interested. If you coming to my door is the only way of getting me to buy your product then it must not have enough merit for consideration" followed by closing the door and turning off the porch light.

Had these guys come to my door in Redstone. I wouldn't have fallen for it anyways, but I remembered this thread and didn't even give him the justification of seeing my energy bill.
"Can I see your energy bill to make sure you aren't getting charged hidden fees?"
"Nope, I'm not interested"
"You aren't interested in us checking for these fees"
"Nope, bye"
"*confused look as door closes*"

They rang my doorbell during the WJHC gold medal game. Seriously? This is the time you choose to disturb people? It was a very curt conversation.

My dad signed up for Just Energy when they came knocking. Fortunately, there is a 10 day window under Alberta legislation that allows you to cancel -- which we did.

Had one of them come to the door about 2 weeks ago. I was expecting someone to drop by to pick something up, otherwise I never open my door.
Him - Hi I am from Just Ene-
Me - NOPE
**SLAM**
I could see the guy through the front window just lingering for about 30 seconds hoping I may come to my senses and allow him the time of day.

The next time they come over, I'm going to show them my bill with my contract #, site ID, and other personal information redacted and see what happens.

I have these guys come by once a year. They have an "F" rating from the BBB. I like the redacted bill idea but next time I might just tell them to "F" off.
