Did the ipad1 just get a price drop? the 16Gig-3G is $550, I thought is was $650 before?

Yes there is a universal price drop for first gen models.
The a5 looks to be a nice upgrade in power compared to the A4. Odds are this new iPad also has 512MB ram, instead of 256 in the first gen.

I think I disagree as well. Apple could shine up a pebble or a turd and people would pile over each other to buy it. It's why holding the stock has been nice.

Who knows? I'm pretty sure they don't exist yet.
I've never bought an iPad, and I probably won't buy this one. The Asus one is the only one that looks good to me so far, though I'd wipe Windows off and put Linux on it.
iPads are great, don't get me wrong. I just can't seem to find a use for one in my life. I was more excited about a possible iMac refresh.

You say that now but think about future functionality. HDMI out could be great. And the Ipad 1 is fairly heavy when you feel it. The lighter weight would be nice. If you don't already have an ipad why not get the latest one even if its a slight upgrade.

Don't think this is enough of an upgrade. Form factor is nice but not like the 1st gen is huge. Cameras could be useful but I barely use facetime on my iPhone 4 anyways. Maybe wait for iPad3 or wait and see if can find good deals on 3-4 month used ones.

from engadget
Update: Okay, we've had a chance to play around the with iPad 2 some more, and here are our big takeaways from the experience. - This thing is insanely fast. We're not joking -- it's blazingly fast. Everything the iPad 2 does feels like it's on turbo. We're uploading a video of the some evidence of this, you'll be appropriately stunned.
- The design feels great in your hands. Sleek, super thin -- much nicer to hold than the previous version. Definitely has more of a magazine than book feel. Everything is tight and solid. It is pretty amazing how thin they've gotten the device.
- Even software made for the first generation device feels better here. Safari is definitely sped up. Games looked great on-screen, though obviously there are no updates to the resolution of screen technology here.
- This is an evolutionary step, but we definitely don't feel like it's lacking for features. People are going to gobble these up when they see the new apps.

Actually, Motorola's Xoom is the first Honeycomb tablet, and it was just released earlier in the week. Reviews for it have been somewhat underwhelming. There are a lot of good things about it, but: the is only a 3G version available right now (no wifi, but it is coming). The UI is different - some like it some hate it. The screen isn't as sharp as would be expected for the price. The price is higher than the iPad. Apparently there were a few crashes of apps, not atrocious, but more than would be expected. And the app store is still too new for there to be many apps.
I was hoping the Xoom would be more of an option, but right now it seems like it would be better to wait for a software update and those seem to be on 5 month cycles. So while it may turn out to be as good or better than iPad2, the current incarnation appears to have been a bit rushed.

iOS 4.3 allows any app creator to add AirPlay functionality into their app. it is up to the 3rd party app creator to enable this.

I'm only going on memory of what they said on TWIT (which they were just reading live blogs), but I'm pretty sure they said 4.3 brings the ability for apps to airplay both audio and video. Boom.
Overall it's almost exactly what I expected ... no new ports, thinner and faster. I didn't think it would get that thin or that fast, so that's a pleasant surprise. I don't have the money to refresh this year, but the setup for iPad 3 (which I believe will be this time next year) is fantastic.
I know I'm in the minority here, but I was gutted when there was no garageband for the original one last year. I'm VERY excited to try this. I'm going to have to find one of those adapters to plug my guitar into it.
As for the iMac refresh I expect that will roll out like the MBP's or the iMacs of last year and just be an apple store update without announcement.
A little mad that the hotspot won't work on my 3gs, but I'm planning to upgrade to the iphone 5, so I guess I only have to wait about 4 more months for that.

Your iPhone4 (or 3G iPad, presumably) can broadcast it's own mobile wireless network, so you can share your 3G connection over WiFi with other devices.
