I'm just grateful for the minority government in place right now and shudder at the thought of what would happen if that was not the case. Can't stand his Americanized politics, the attack adds, a lot of his policies he's passed or attempted too, and how he represents Canada to the rest of the world. I have almost nothing good to say about him, but almost less then any other party leader in this country right now.

just like the french in the national anthem at the HC debate, i am quite stunned by what i read from posters on here. i don't know if people just have an extremely short term of reference, or they are just practicing partisan politics on this thread.

in context, this PM has done a good job of managing 2 minority governments, including one during what some are calling the most challenging economic times since the Great Depression. The credit should be shared amongst many of the governments and departments that helped to provide the framework for stability; the fact of the matter is that this minority government, including the opposition parties, found a way to work together, within their frameworks and ideologies, to limit the economic damage and keep Canada moving forward. I think that the PM deserves credit for working to get things done. Was it all entirely fair and equal? of course not; nor should it be.

on Quebec, i think the pm had done a good job as well. i like the fact that the government has stepped up on things like the CRTC and asked for more competition for canadians. there has been little controversy such as the NEP or similar, and the country is moving ahead. i have no idea what "americanized politics" means; buzzword bingo adds little understanding and certainly it is without context.

as for stuff like "he is mean" or "he is arrogant", i say good. i want my leader to know what he or she is doing, and to execute as they feel they have to. politics isn't for the faint of heart, nor is leadership. ultimately, i want the leader to do the job that he or she is elected to do.

so far, this pm deserves credit for doing a good job in a minority government setting, whilst minimizing the divisive aspects of Canadian politics. I don't think Harper needs a majority government to be considered a successful pm.

Like I mentioned before those are dead issues. If the conservatives did win a majority and tried to change them, it would be the last majority for the Conservatives forever, and the next government would simply repeal those changes.
Sorry, I should clarify that I was speaking solely about "social conservatism" as a set of ideals and not specifically about the agenda of the Conservatives in that paragraph. One of the nice things about the Conservatives is that they aren't just a Canadian GOP.
