No, the reason I've never heard of them is because I don't listen to that type of music.
And that they suck a lot worse than Nickelback. If they were even somewhat relevant more people would know who they were.
And I'm sure your library is recommended by some solid people. You probably hadn't heard of Metric before this thread. I don't blame you though 99% of people have no clue who she is either.

Actually, no. Lil Wayne is American. Sheesh. That'd be mighty inappropriate at this game.
And you can dislike these bands all you like for not knowing who they are, that's your prerogative. Personally I think it's pretty ignorant to dislike something simply because you've never heard it. Kudo's to the programmers for booking these acts and attempt to educate a Nickelback fan on something new.

Lol too bad I bit on yours though
Anyways screw the music like I said earlier I really couldn't care less what they play at the game as I'm not going to a concert. Just find it funny how people are offended that not everyone enjoys their taste in music.

I have nothing against them, it's just that they do boring music and we've seen that kind of garbage music dozens of times.

LOL. I guess bands are only famous if you've heard of them? Get over yourself.

Justin Bieber would have been a better choice than Metric.
|
Depending on what kind of music you prefer, you could swap Metric and Bieber in your sentences and make the same argument.
At the end of the day, it's a band playing music for about 5 minutes in between periods of a hockey. Nothing to get too upset about, regardless if you like the selection or not.
I personally like the selections because they've gone in a different direction than what I was anticipating. Nothing wrong with some interesting Canadian content.
Not sure Bieber would have gone over too well with the crowd there today. He's not exactly geared towards a hockey crowd.

Yeah, I don't really give a crap if people like them. I just think it's better for the NHL than the last few times they've had a musical performer at one of their events.

Music is good either because it's unique or because of the charisma of it's members. I like a lot of bands you haven't heard and it goes the other way around and I'm sure some of them could potentially be considered as good. However if you like the music of Metric, you're enjoying a band that plays music we have seen a lot in the past years and they have no members with any good charisma. It's what we considered a trash band. The songs look the same from the beginning to the end of the song and every song look a like.
End of arguments

Two great bands in my opinion but not surprised they aren't to everyone's taste. The Beatles could be performing at the Heritage Classic and people would complain on CP.
I first saw Metric what seems like eons ago at the old Mac Hall ballroom opening for Hot Hot Heat (the band, not the CP poster).

No, I win for not getting involved.
You lose for trying to convince someone the music they enjoy is wrong.
Good day, sir.

I haven't really heard a lot of Metric other than the "radio songs". But after listening to some of the songs posted they sound like a very decent band especially for an outdoor event. Good call by the NHL. They remind me of Sonic Youth "light".

I saw Metric live 10 years ago before they were even popular and they were playing at holes in the wall. They were okay then. It's generic hipsterish pop/rock that I hold in the same range as Arcade Fire, Stars, etc. Not a big fan of that kind of music.
They're Canadian so I don't mind them playing the Heritage Classic.
At least they are going for a modern group. I mean...it's this or Loverboy (formed in Calgary!) and Honeymoon Suite and Glass Tiger and Platinum Blonde with a cameo by Bryan Adams.

Umm one of those is not like the other. Bryan Adams would be a huge act to get for the Classic. Loverboy, Honeymoon Suite, Glass Tiger and Platinum Blonde are casino circuit type bands these days, Bryan Adams still sells out arenas around the world.

I hate any modern band that describes itself as Indie or New Wave. It's nothing more than a generic label for lifestyle and image that gets thrown around to make bands sound cooler than they really are. It says nothing about the quality of the music. Just because you are "Indie" or "New Wave" does not mean your music is as good as the Pixies or Pavement or as influential as the early B52's.
This has to be one of the most boring and uninspired bands I've ever heard. If this band actually gets anyone excited about music then that is a terrible indictment of just how bad the music industry has become since the digital era.
As far as being right for this event, as much as I hate Nickleback, I think they would be a much a better fit than some boring "Indie" band. At least Nickleback fits the demographic of a hockey game in a big stadium and they may actually try to entertain the crowd.

Well if I could actually watch the game I'd be changing the channel. Neither of these bands sound very good and I've told myself the next time I hear that stupid Stadium Love I'm gonna break my radio.

That's another good point. I don't think Metric is a stadium band. They are a good indoor/bar/club/college/much music type band. You need arena rockers for something like this...then again, there aren't really any good ones these days.
As far as Nickelback is concerned, I'd rather they be pelted with rocks like they were in Portugal.

Never mind he's be awarded an Order of Canada....Not a big Bryan Adams fan, but the guy is clearly accomplished.

Good choices of bands by the NHL. Definitely time to shed the jock rock image that hockey has. I'm actually not a huge fan of either band but it gives the game and the city a fresher image than if they went with a Nickelback type band.
For those who have never heard of the bands, no one cares. Did you ever think that maybe you are the one out of the loop, not the NHL? They obviously aren't going to book bands that don't have some broad appeal. Maybe you should listen to more than Jack FM.
At the end of the day its just a small part of the festivities, so who cares.
