That's temporary though and only lasts for a couple hours. The curry odor from homes never seems to go away. 24/7

I recall, when my wife was teaching grade two, a parent came in to complain about a song / prayer my wife had made up for the children to sing before class began each day. I believe he may have been a JW.
She sang it to the parent and asked him if he had any objection, and he said "No" and left.
The song went:
"It's time to begin our day
Be near us Lord we pray
Help us always do what you'd want us to
Whether here, or at home, or at play"
Perhaps some of the atheists here would object.

If this was my child's class at a public school, then yes I would object. Why is it okay for your wife to require my child to sing a song about God? If your child had a Hindu teacher would you be happy if that teacher required the children to sing a prayer to Ganesh every morning?
Now before we completely derail this thread... A couple of points, I am an atheist (more or less), I went to both public and catholic schools all the way through school. In my public high school in Ontario, we had a morning reading along with the national anthem. The morning reading rotated among bible passages, readings from the B'hai, readings from the Buddha, the Qu'ran, and various other philosophies and religions. I do not object to this approach because it was about exposing us to the tenets of various belief systems, and it was a matter of listening, not reciting.

Religion should kept away from schools. Those 7 years olds your wife is teaching are there to learn actual skills, fairytales can be read or sung at bedtime.

Students should given the option of opting out if the choose. That is a better option than baning it all together.

Everyone is racist in one fashion or another.
The only difference is I choose to speak my mind. Other people choose their words carefully and walks on egg shells. I say it the way I see it. The way I've had to live around it.
Like it or not, plenty of people have read my post and probably agreed. Unfortunately these same people won't voice themselves like I have, for fear of being branded something. That's their choice.
You don't have to agree with me. But at least understand the level if frustration. When we (as a country) start to bend the rules for every person that comes here, fresh off the boat, then we start to lose our identity as a country.
If I wanted to live in a Muslim, Pakistani or whatever country...then I'd move there. Don't change my culture because you want your old culture. You left that place to come here: CANADA.

We may not agree with what this guy is saying, but you gotta give him credit for speaking his mind, and saying what only the thickest-skulled among us believe, but at least he's willing to say it anonymously on the internet with nothing more than a fake name to identify him.
COURAGE and CONVICTION!
Go back to Pakistan you lousy spicks!

Have you told your neighbors you hate the smell of their curry and the fact that you live among them? I'm willing to bet you haven't. Its pretty easy to "speak your mind" on the internet. You're probably the type to hide behind your wife while you pretend to be a man on the internet. So keep fighting the good fight buddy I'm proud of your heroism on the internet and speaking on behalf of everyone who is too scared to speak their mind on a anonymous message board.

Re my wife's song:
I should explain she used it in her class over 30 years ago, when "the Lord's Prayer" was routinely repeated in Assembly.
As a Believer, her words symbolized doing your best in an atmosphere of kindness and respect for each other. It worked. As a teacher she was second to none...athough I'm biased.

Why would this be locked up? Nothing really that bad being said. Some ignorance, but that's to be expected.
I think the discussion is good.

It's topics like these which give a stereotype for anonymous users viewing CP about Calgarians.
Cheers.

Yeah, but I'm sure the site doesn't care about the sterotype that is portrayed by anonymous users and besides CP already has a great ambassador to Calgary in Aeneas.

No, for example I'm a die hard hockey fan and grade 12 student in Toronto and I may pursue a job somewhere out west.
This really doesn't give me a good image about Calgary if they are not willing to accept people from other backgrounds.
There are many other people probably in the same boat (mostly lurkers) who are possibly thinking the same way.
Just my 0.02.

So it is your belief that Sharia law should be instituted in Canada?
Pretty sure it isn't just Westerners that are fundamentally opposed to that. Most of what I've read in this thread suggest CPers don't want radical minorities to institute obviously discriminatory and archaic laws in our society.

I'm willing to accept people from different backgrounds. Just don't come around here shoving it down my throat and trying to change my community into 'lil' Pakistan' or whatever.
And as much as puckluck and I are arguing, I have to agree with him on how the discussion has been quite good, so far.
And everyone is guilty of hiding on the internet behind a fake name and speaking their mind. It's what makes it great. And yes, I have spoken to my neighbors about the smell. They close the windows now.

With all the important things happening in the world, it's sad that the request of ~24 people to reported as meaningful news.
As far as I'm concerned, these types of demands are why we have a social structure. A group asks for something, the process receiving the request appraises the situation and makes a decision. That's not news, just social order.

Of course not!
My parents came to Canada in 93 during the midst of the Bosnian war.I have a little brother and bigger sister who have adjusted quite well here in Toronto. I think that's mainly because Ontario is accepting more and more immigrants from diverse cultures and the racial crimes have cut down a lot.
But reading some of the comments involving curry and common stereotypes like picking noses and not showering really makes me never want to go to Calgary because of how I may be viewed there.
