Question for you and everybody who thinks they are a "good driver while on the phone"- what were the circumstances where you had that tested? I ask because study after study shows otherwise; that over 99% of us cannot safely operate a vehicle while on the phone.

If your basis for this is "I haven't gotten into an accident while talking on the phone"- you are missing the problem. I have seen it time after time where somebody causes me to perform some act of defensive driving; while that person not only didn't see me, but after the fact they are also completely unaware that anything happened. So if you are unaware that you caused a near miss; how can you call yourself a good driver?

Don't get me wrong; I am guilty of sometimes talking on the phone while driving. Often you do never know if your best friend is on his death bed; or whatever. But I know that as soon as I answer that call my normal "above average driving ability" (which by the way all of us on CP share), has gone down to below average ability. So I either make the call short; or ask the caller to hang on while I safely pull over.

Working in bars, I saw guys routinely get behind the wheel while drunk. Same guys every time they came in. So if a guy drives home drunk 100 times in a year and never has an accident; does that mean that alcohol does not affect his driving ability?
