Gotta love coming into the season with a healthy roster. Gives me a good feeling about tomorrow.
At the same time, there are no excuses now, the team needs to perform off the start. We all saw what a slow start can do to a season.

Goaltending should be much better to start this season, if the rest of the team can maintain their play level the results should be much better. If the rest of the team can elevate its play similar to how I expect the goaltending play to be elevated, a really fast start is possible.

Hudler last year looked a lot slower than 14/15 for whatever reason, to the point where he was almost a liability at times out there with 13 and 23. If PAP is not even as fast as 15/16 Hudler, then there really is no reason to pick him up.

What's the Flames record in season openers over the past decade? I hate opening up against the spoilers and Canucks as they get to take advantage of a notoriously slow starting team.

It's probably only slightly better than our record in Anaheim. These are almost always guaranteed-lose nights, especially when against Vancouver or Edmonton.

the Flames need to be at least 500 after the first ten games.
Teams that are over 500 after the first ten games don't always make the playoffs.
That said, teams that are under 500 after the first ten games almost always miss the playoffs.
I think that 500 after the first ten games is realistic, considering the schedule looks like this:
Wed, 12 Oct 2016 Flames @ Oilers 8:00 PM
Fri, 14 Oct 2016 Oilers @ Flames 7:00 PM
Sat, 15 Oct 2016 Flames @ Canucks 8:00 PM
Tue, 18 Oct 2016 Sabres @ Flames 7:00 PM
Thu, 20 Oct 2016 Hurricanes @ Flames 7:00 PM
Sat, 22 Oct 2016 Blues @ Flames 8:00 PM
Mon, 24 Oct 2016 Flames @ Blackhawks 6:30 PM
Tue, 25 Oct 2016 Flames @ Blues 6:00 PM
Fri, 28 Oct 2016 Senators @ Flames 7:00 PM
Sun, 30 Oct 2016 Capitals @ Flames 7:30 PM

I like that line as well but I also think Ferland is the best bet for the top line at the moment.
Desperately need someone to step up into that RW position.

Oilers game one roster according to their practice lines:
Lucic-McDavid-Eberle
Pouliot-RNH-Draisaitl
Maroon-Caggiula-Puljujarvi
Pitlick-Letestu-Kassian
Klefbom-Larsson
Sekera-Russell
Nurse-Davidson
Talbot
Puljujarvi has not looked good in preseason. Unless he really tears it up, I can't see him getting more than 9 games if he was on a good team with a competent GM. But Oilers ... so, you know. Top 6 looks dangerous but if I recall Draisaitl only looked good when playing with Hall and McDavid last year. It'll be interesting to see how he plays against the tougher matchups that the RNH line usually gets. Bottom 6, although big, not too worried. Hopefully Maroon and Kassian pick up some dumb penalties. The D is most definitely improved from last year but improving from liquid garbage to regular garbage isn't hard. Talbot is definitely a threat. He can stand on his head from time to time and was solid, it not unspectacular last year. Man, I really hope we spoil there arena christening.

I'm hearing puck drop will be 8:45 pm Wednesday for Rogers Place Oiler opener with all pre-game ceremonies
45 minutes of awkward ass-hatery. I guess shouldn't expect anything less.

Gulutzan said Brodie will start the season on the left side with Engelland. Giordano will be with Wideman.

Excellent, son's birthday party doesn't end until 8:30 so I'll see the whole game but bypass the whole Rogers Centre circle jerk.

Are they going to introduce every living ex oiler again - and by ex oiler, I mean anyone who has pulled on an Oilers sweater for even one preseason game?

It's like the Anaheim curse where it transcends players and coaches. Nothing you can really pinpoint outside of the fact the team typically lays an egg on game one of the season.

Jesus H. Christ.
The game isn't going to start until nearly 11:00 p.m. my time. On a weeknight no less. WTF?! Why not start the ceremonies at 7:30 and then drop the puck at a relatively reasonable time?
Oh right...Oilers. Worst run organization in the history of sports.
