Yotes are almost certainly going to have a point total that would have missed the playoffs last season. They are an average team
36 Wins and 35 Losses -4 goal differential

I noticed you said you were referring to the universally recognized 71 game pace so I changed my post. Silly me for not realizing that. I have watched hockey for 4 decades and forgot all the times that the 71 game yardstick was used, my bad.

Well I had already clarified it earlier...a couple pages back somebody else posted the Flames were 3 points up after 70 games. Bottom line most years their record doesn't make it. Likely doesn't make it in the other conference this year when all is said and done
pretty hard to give them coach and GM awards
other than that I have actually been cheering for them as it pisses off the Oilers so
Anyway, no match up is easy...but who would any of you guys choose besides the Yotes in round one?

I would be fine with any of Arizona, Colorado, or Minnesota in the first round. I think they'd all be contested series that the Flames would take away in 5 or 6.
I'd be less certain about Dallas, though -- the Flames always seem to have issues with them

Agreed Bishop is a monster in the playoffs not to mention he’s rounding into form right now and they will have Zuccarello back for game 1

I'll take the Blues in the 1st round.

I'm cautiously optimistic we can make it in, but knowing Coyotes luck not holding my breath.
To even have a 1st round exit to The Flames would be pretty awesome.

I hope Arizona loses their team. Never deserved it in the first place.

Seems like a reductive opinion. Why does Vegas or Carolina or Florida or Tampa or whoever deserve a team over Arizona? I get the derision about taking Winnipeg, but that's water under the bridge -- Winnipeg has a team again. Arizona is a rising team with a growing fanbase, and I would never actively root for a fanbase to lose a team.

As mentioned numerous times already in this thread “injured non-roster players” are not factored into man-games lost.

Nobody is saying they're comparable to an incredible team here. They have no business being a sniff from the playoffs with that roster, payroll and their massive amount of injuries to KEY players.
That's the point. They are one of the best stories in the NHL. Period

I want the Yotes vs. Flames round 1. Who wouldn't want to hop on a plane for some round 1 playoff hockey and golf? Follow that up with Vegas in round 2 and this could be the greatest playoff run ever!

Just watch. Arizona will make a push, take 3rd, the Flames will finish 1st and still get Vegas.

The Coyotes have lost 300+ man games to injury this season

“Deserve.”
How does one measure this attribute in the first place? The idea that some demographics “deserve” a local hockey team while others do not is so subjectively arbitrary.

Unlikely. Vegas would probably take WC1 and face off against the top-ranked team in the Central.

That I would be ok with. Just posing a "just my/our luck" scenario.

That would be fine. Calgary could then play Arizona in Round Two.

WC2 will be much higher in the East

Point total of the 8th seed in the Western Conference during the wild card era
17-18 - 95
16-17 - 94
15-16 - 87!
14-15 - 99 (although Calgary had 97 but were 3 seed in the Pacific)
13-14 - 91
What's actually surprising this year is the glut of mediocre teams that are going to make the playoffs in the West.
In 15-16 - Minnesota had 87, but everyone else had 96 or above
In 13-14 - Dallas had 91, but everyone else was 98 points or above
This year you could easily have 4 teams with less than 95 points in the playoffs. And its not outside the realm of possibilities that the 9th seed in the East could have more points than the 5th seed in the West.

There are some better stories though:
TB just running away with things in almost unprecedented fashion.
Calgary being awesome after being so bad last year, with rookies and newcomers and scoring galore.
New team is Seattle. Cool.
More scoring league wide.
Edmonton sucking so badly.
