Why? All the Pentincton games were never unavailable outside the Flames region before, only pre-season. It really irks me when a franchise craps on their out of market fans. If the stream is available via GCL or CI that is different but these games won't be on either. To me this is like the Flames saying we really don't care about our OOT fans.

From KLowe School of Hockey, there are different tiers of fans: In town and out of town.

The last few years, they have streamed all the Penticton games on each team's YouTube channel.

Do we know the roster for today or will that be confirmed later?

Bump.
Might not happen in 2018:
Jim Matheson@NHLbyMatty
I'm hearing YoungStars tournament in Penticton might not go this upcoming Sept. with Edm, Calg, Wpg, Vanc prospects. Last fall's annual even was disappointing for calibre of kids taking part said many NHL scouts.

1. I haven't heard this. Maybe Jim's sources different though.
2. I'm not sure the quality was that low. Quite a few first rounders/top guys were there. I've seen much worse rosters at other rookie camps.
3. I'm not sure why roster quality is a relevant factor to cancel.

Where would be the incentive for anyone to attend? One of the great things about holding it in Penticton is that people like going to the Okanagan in the summertime. Cochrane? Red Deer? Not so much.

The grease are probably sad that it's the highlight of their season
I've quite enjoyed them, hopefully it's there for a another go. Invite Vegas maybe and send the grease somewhere else if you need to

That sucks. We have kind of made it an annual guys trip, been to every one since Monahan's draft year. Would be a real shame to not have it this year. Penticton in the summer is awesome.

Love the tournament and have been a couple years, but my biggest gripe is that Flames always seem to get a terrible schedule. If you want people from Edmonton and Calgary to come out, don't make the last game on the weekend too late for Alberta fans to drive home or catch a flight out.
It sucks when you buy a game pack and get to catch 1 (maybe 2) of the games, because the schedule caters so heavily to Vancouver.

^The problem is that teams don't want to play 3 in 3 nights so you need the Monday, and then the Flames/grease probably prefer to play their game against each other on the weekend for maximum seat sales.
So you're stuck with having one of the alberta teams playing in the late game monday.
Maybe do it Thursday-Sunday

Do they ever release the attendance? If I had to guess the Winnipeg games versus Calgary and Edmonton were probably the least attended games. The thing is a good chuck of the tickets are sold to those games as you get them in the package.
I thought it was decent for summer hockey. Maybe the Oilers want to pull out because they never have enough prospects to send to the game. They keep pulling their eligible guys (PullmyRV) and don't like playing their first overalls.

Tournament organizer says there will be an event in Penticton this summer:
https://www.saobserver.net/sports/pe...stars-comment/
Quote:
Andrew Jakubeit, who is the event chair for the Penticton organizing committee for the tournament, said the tweet from Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal caught him off-guard.
“It definitely did. Right now, I’m confident there will be an event this fall. What the shape, size or scope of teams is; I can’t confirm or deny yet.”
Jakubeit said the tournament does not have a multi-year contract keeping it in the city. Each year the Penticton committee works with their partner, the Vancouver Canucks, who then liaise with the NHL clubs. He said it is typical to not have a event firmed up at this time of the season and that the announcement usually comes in June or late spring. However, he said an announcement could be coming sooner.
“Certainly we fully intend on having an event in early September. The formal agreement usually comes through the Canucks and those details are still being finalized. So right now, I have nothing concrete to confirm or deny.”

I think that just confirms that Edmonton doesn't like it because it shows how shallow their prospect pool is.
