I like it - I think it will be a value contract for a solid young D man

Let's put the confetti away though - this isn't a lock - let's (hopefully) celebrate heading into year 3 or 4

Love the future outlook of our defence!

Hanifin-Andersson
Valimaki
Kylington

I think Kylington will be sadly used as trade bait but it’s still a solid young group.

If Tree can move Brodie or Hamonic for a top 6 forward or assets to get a top 6 forward then the team should be in good shape!

Honestly, I think this will be a bargain by years 2-3. Andersson has the potential to be a #1 guy.

Don't want to speak disparagingly, but nobody who knows what they're talking about dislikes this deal.
He's a good top pairing defender already.

Looks like not NTC or NMC in the last 2 years which he would have been eligible for.

News Update

Pierre LeBrun @PierreVLeBrun
Rasmus Andersson extension breakdown:

Year 1: $5.05 M
Year 2: $4.05 M
Year 3: $4.55 M
Year 4: $4.55 M
Year 5: $4.55 M
Year 6: $4.55 M

Player gives up two years UFA, but gets early security. Flames lock up promising RHD who can play in all situations.

Bargain now. Bargain more so if he gets better. This is the same type deal that Mattias Ekholm got from the Preds and it worked out great for them. Awesome signing.

Rasmus has looked really solid, very happy about this. Can we please just remember to not treat this like an albatross if he has a rough patch next year.

Also, I love me some trash talk. GFG

I completely agree with you, Freeway. He's already been great with Giordano and I think he and Hanifin represent the future of this team on the top pair.

Then why did you spell it "-tz" and not "-taz"?

Poile type contract.

These should be more common. Josi's contract was one of the best ever.
Hopefully Rasmus continues to develop.

Valimaki was trending higher than Hanifin IMO. Valimaki pre-injury had the brightest upside of any of our young D. Despite the injury I think it more likely that Valimaki exceeds Hanifin.

Treliving has an embarrassment of riches on the blue line. 3 young potential top pairing defensemen in addition to Gio, Hamonic, Brodie and Stone.
