Still think Votto as hitting coach would be a homerun.

Re Votto, it seems like a bit of a PR stunt and a maple syrup mascot story, but worth it. Doesn't really fill a need (Belt replacement, at best) but if he can give the team another option and a positive veteran attitude, that will be good for the clubhouse and am sure he will be a hit with the fans if he sticks.

Not so sure on the Votto try out, I would also think it looks like a PR stunt

Jays, however really need to make a trade to acquire an hitter,

Going to be a tough season,

Another angle to consider for the Jays on the Votto signing is where he'll be with the organization two years from now. By being a player and getting the inside scoop, he could see who's part of the club and who may not be a fit, so whenever he transitions to management of some sort, he can filter info to the higher ups on what he noticed.

Long conversation by the Jays broadcast crew in today's spring training game about how the data shows that catching from 1 knee gets you more called strikes and doesn't affect your ability to block pitches. Went on and on, and then immediately after Berrios/Kirk got a strikeout on a marginal strike call. I was expecting them to say, "See Buck!" but they held back.

Sounding more and more like Gerrit Cole might miss significant time to start the year and even Judge is already apparently banged up a bit.

That'd be pretty disastrous for the Yankees

Just waiting on Stanton’s inevitable back and arm problems. Love when bad things happen to that team. Only thing more insufferable than Yanks fans are Red Sox fans.

I never cheer for injuries but neither of these make me sad at all.

Also, Rodon's statcast and results make him look completely cooked. Just spring training but we'll see.

Sorry guys, don't shoot the messenger

The Yankees already have a $307 million luxury tax payroll according to fangraphs. That's into the highest luxury tax threshold, they are going to pay through the teeth already.

I can't see them adding a big contract like Snell is looking for.

I can see them grabbing a couple of lesser pitchers like German and Clevinger maybe.

Who'd have thunk that being an absolute #### for much of your existence would see people drop you at the first viable opportunity?

Obviously just spring training, but I'm liking Turner already. Hopefully he brings some pop to the team in the regular season.

Joey Votto is going to play on this team. And I am here for it.

In other news,

"Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen has been diagnosed with a fracture of the pisiform bone in his right wrist, manager John Schneider revealed to reporters today (X links via Keegan Matheson of MLB.com).

He was hit by a pitch during the Jays’ Grapefruit League game earlier this week.

The team currently expects him to miss a “couple weeks,” though he has a follow-up appointment today that could reveal more information."
