Aces take a penalty with 5 to go in the second, still 2-0. Last I heard we're outshooting Bakersfield by something absurd like 27-6

Alaska go to the powerplay with 33s left in the period, will carry over to the third
as an aside, I have my doubts Taranto is pronounced the way this pbp guy is saying it. Seems like a decent pbp guy, but I don't know how anyone with a last name that sounds like Toronto could ever successfully reproduce

That's pretty impressive. Very good quality for an ECHL broadcast, have the ADR Flames committed to a broadcast team yet? Would be happy to listen to these guys next season

Time is bleeding of the clock in this period, very few whistles. Already halfway through and not a terrible amount of anything happening. A lot of shots from the outside with chances few and far between

I spoke too soon, two quick penalties by the Condors give the Aces a long 5 on 3. Seems like they're trying to hurt the Alaska players outright, a slash to the back of the knee on Connolly draws one of them

5 minutes left to go, with the shot clock reading 10-3 in this final frame alone, it's a pretty safe bet athntk will get to see an elimination game in a few days time

Roy faced a defining 11 shots to secure the shutout. Aces put up 41.

That's the game, Aces walk away 4-0 with little resistance from the Condors. Absolute domination throughout the game, managing to keep Bakersfield to under 5 shots in every single period whilst unloading over 40 on Brossoit.
They take a 3-2 series lead back home, hope you guys in Alaska have some fun!~

Write up for last nights game..
http://alaskaaces.com/news/aces/201405/air-tight-aces
Captain Nick Mazzolini collected a goal, added two assists and Olivier Roy only had to make 11 saves for his first career playoff shutout, helping the Alaska Aces sink the Bakersfield Condors in a 4-0 victory in Game 5 of the Western Conference Final before 4,708 fans at Rabobank Arena on Sunday.
The Aces can eliminate Bakersfield with a win in Game 6, which gets underway at 7:15 p.m. ADT from Sullivan Arena on Tuesday and simulcasted on TV and radio (GCI Channel 1/KFQD), with Mike Benton providing play-by-play coverage along with Dave Goldman.

With only 3 shots in the 3rd period, the Condors did not even take enough shots to even up the 4 goal deficit they had in the game. Even if Roy let all of the shots in he faced, they still would have lost the game.

I think that would have made a very amusing game if the Aces left their net empty for 20 minutes.

Game 6 is tonight. An Aces win will give them the Western Conference Championship and put them in the Kelly Cup Finals.
In the East, looks like Cincinatti is up 3-2 on Greenville and with a win could end that series tonight.
Cincinatti is the 5th seed, Greenville is #7. Alaska is #1. If the Aces do face Cincinatti, looks to be a good series based on the notes on the ECHL page:
Quote:
Cincinnati is in the Conference Finals for the second straight year and for the fifth time in seven seasons. Cyclones captured Kelly Cup titles in 2008 and 2010.
Aces are appearing in the Conference Finals for the seventh time in the last 10 seasons
|
Aces also won a Kelly Cup in 2011.

Nice to see Roy get a shutout. Is he AHL material for next season?

I don't think he'll get another NHL contract. He hasn't been able to make the AHL, except as an injury call up in three years.
