Had an idea!

Found the episode to be really slow despite the time jump.
If the skips are going to be common, I'm not sure it will be really enjoyable. Ugh.

I think they could have done more to develop the relationship between Viserys and Emily. Viserys really seemed indifferent to her presence, so I know they were trying to shock us, but it left me more with a "that doesn't make any sense" reaction than one of shock. He speaks of being open to his daughter, but then doesn't even let her know he is going to marry her BFF? Didn't work for me.

Dragonstone and King's Landing are actually pretty close to each other, so I'll accept the teleportation this time. as for Viserys marriage announcement, he withheld that mainly to get the big shock reaction at the small council from everyone, but in universe my assumption is that 1. he just was really not feeling it for the 12 year old and 2. he's at least consistently mediocre to bad at the whole game of thrones thing so he just went with the option that made him less personally uncomfortable.

While I'm enjoying the show, it does feel like it's missing a Tryion/Bron type character to add at least a bit of levity.

Renewed for season 2.

The move came relatively quickly following the series premiere of Dragon on Sunday, which delivered 10 million viewers overnight — an HBO record for a series opener and roughly on par with the premiere of Game of Thrones season six. Now HBO reports that in the days since the show’s premiere, the first episode’s viewership has climbed to 20 million viewers in the U.S. across linear, on demand and HBO Max platforms.

Every time Rhys Ifan turns around I'm hoping I read "Fancy a ####" on his back.

Hopefully crab man has some Euron Greyjoy in him, but I'm very much doubting he will.

Apparently in the books, the age difference between the king and Alicent is much less:
https://www.avclub.com/ok-so-just-ho...gon-1849467592
They never really say how old the king is (although he looks quite old). His brother looks a lot younger than him, and they have the same two parents. I always assumed they made the kind looks a lot older than he was, as he was going through poor health from that mystery disease that is stopping his wounds from healing.

That could be it. I'm enjoying it too for the most part, but feel it's missing something that I just can't put my finger on.
Last night I chalked it up to first season, still finding its footing and building chemistry.

I think this goes directly to the GoT boob quality curve. If they had actually shown her seducing him earlier than the whole emotion of the moment would have rang more true for all four characters involve. (both fathers and daughters).

That part honestly felt like a cheesy romantic chick flick storyline. Pretty lame.

Even if there are some time skip shenanigans, I'm personally loving the slower scenes that allow the time for things to build through conversation. More of that please.

Shes 18 when they marry in the books
They switched the ages a bit though, Rhaenyra was aged up to be a similar age to Alicent, in the books shes about 10 years younger
It said rhaenyra was 15 last night

From what I read in some of the articles before the first episode, they happen in the first part of the season, and then once Alicent and Rhaenyra get aged up and played by older actresses it slows down

Nah, that's the Meereen fighting pits equivalent with slaves and gladiator type sellswords.
A tourney like that in the first episode shouldn't be as deadly as that, should be more a Knight's Tale than the Mountain vs Oberyn. It was just to get in that violence porn which I think was a mistake.
And it's elaborated in the very next episode when they talk about all these great tourney knights but Criston Cole was chosen because he actually saw battle. These tourneys aren't real combat, or shouldn't be.

Alicent=Emily?
I don't think they were at all subtle in that he had feelings for her. Maye they came across more father-daughter because of the age gap and our cultural norms where you're interested in someone at the club you grind and twerk on each other. Medieval time it was much more subtle and you can see how he changes demeanor with her anytime someone interrupted because he was obviously very comfortable with her and not the stoic king he is expected to be. But I think if you rewatched their scenes you wouldn't be surprised. Like the gaze they shared after he dropped the stone dragon. Then it got even more obvious when she presented him with it fixed. They even showed Alicent harming herself because she was uncomfortable seducing him.

I think that could be attributed to how well his father handled the realm. It was a peaceful long reign, and those vying for power after his death weren't left with a vacuum because the realm had already decided on who would be king by way of the great council which was a democratic election. So Viserys already had the backing of the majority of the realm and probably had those like Corlys already on the council when he became king. He didn't need to play the game of thrones because it was an easy transition.
