After riding Louise the last few days, was stoked to be at Sunshine first thing this morning — as they were closed the last couple days.
Well, there were definitely people, ripping it the last couple days (hotel guests? employees?), but my hopes were quashed after ripping the usual stashes — (Back door, bye bye, tp & garbage chutes, etc; ). and finding they were beat. Peaced.
I’m gonna take a nap.

LL was great today. The downhill race doesn’t impact regular skiers much. A couple of runs are not available but all lifts are going.

Found it really tough skiing today at LL. With the cloud cover I was having a tough time reading the snow, and I had not skied in two years. My legs are killing me right now.
We got in 7 runs and then stopped. The back side lifts were very busy.
We also found out that LL now seeming wants all your bags outside or for you to rent a locker. Also at around one the line up for food was nuts.
Hope to get out next weekends to try and find my legs.

Word on the street is Fernie opens Saturday. Supposed to snow the next week as well, and it's BADLY needed.

Went to lake Louise today. Nice day out there and not as busy as I thought it would be.
We have an RBC avion visa, and they have a host tent there, and they gave up VIP passes, that let us use the ski school lift line.
We got in 10 runs (our magic number) before noon.
Apparently these VIP passes are worth $75 each and while we’re we’re waiting in line I noted that regular price weekend lift passes are $129 and I think they are $145 during Christmas break and family day weekend (those are the at the hill ticket window price)

I took the kids to Nakiska today and it was surprisingly dead there today. There were no lift lines. I know it is early in the season but I wonder if the risk of Omicron is keeping people away.

I’m going to try to hit up Sunshine or Louise on Tuesday. What’s the most cost effective way to do that if I’m not sure if I’ll get another day in this year? Mayyy get 1-2 more in if lucky.

I think the cold temps, are keeping the fairweathers away.
Louise has been awesome.

Get a discount card.
If either of your 2nd or 3rd visits are to the same resort, you save, otherwise a wash.

I would recommend the Costco lift tickets. 2 days at Sunshine is $190 and 2 at Louise is $220. If you don't go out for a second day you can sell the unused ticket to a friend or something.

Just a quick update from the other side of the divide.
Yesterday at Sun Peaks was one of the better days I've had there over the last 18 years!
Reported 17cm, but it was laying much deeper in the trees and lee areas. We were finding lines well over knee deep even at the end of the day.
Great day, and major props to Mrs. blender for insisting I go.

Seems that I might have had some good parks Canada karma, as I forgot to put my park pass on my dash yesterday (first time ever as we usually have a pass or buy a day pass).
I realized my mistake at around 11 as we were riding up larch and my vehicle had be sitting for 3 hrs already
Got to the vehicle at 2 and there was no paper ticket. Waiting to see if I get something in the mail mid-month

Do they actually ticket? I was under the impression they don't actually have that power, but they can turn you around if they see you without one.

They do "ticket" but the reality is it's a notification. They don't have the power to issue fines. It's why they setup so many check stops, because it guarantees they at least get a pass purchased.
