Gulutzan doesn’t get enough hate on here for what a terrible terrible coach he was. I maintain the reason the Oilers had one good year is because of the confidence they got absolutely pumping us to start of their season, which lead to all those Spector articles which are hilarious to read now. The team got shelled and it took months for them get their confidence back that season. The guy had zero instinct and feel for the game.
His game plan to beat was McDavid was to put Dennis Wideman against him. Think about that. He played Dougie on the bottom pairing with Niklas Grossmann.
The best thing possible for a Flames fan is Gulutzan behind the Oilers bench for a few years. The best possible outcome.

What are the odds Edmonton fans and media show some humility this summer?

Klefbom is a middling middle pair guy when healthy that brings zero offence. He's not quite as good as Hamonic in my opinion, although he is younger. Nurse is a poor middle 6 that is poor in his own end and inconsistent offensively. I would not trade any of Valimaki, Andersson, Kylington or Hanofin for him. Larsson is the definition of meh. Every team in the NHL has a comparable guy or two in their middle or bottom pairing.
Your overall point stands though. They are a very bad team with very few actual decent players, despite being gifted high picks over and over again.

Probably as high as the Oilers odds to win the 2019/20 Stanley Cup.

The title of the thread is Edmonton is No Good. Unless you are a butt-hurt Oilers fan the understanding and assumed responsibility of posting in this thread is the affirmation of this sacred truth.
Do you have commendable things to say about the Oilers and their players? It doesn't belong in this thread.
Do you aspire to wax poetically about the Saskatchewan River Valley, the Fringe Fest and all the manifold benefits of living in Edmonton? It doesn't belong in this thread.
Do you wish to complain about other posters for being unfair to the Oilers and the city of Edmonton, and to smugly admonish them for their bias? It does not belong in this thread.
You are otherwise welcome to start another thread about poor, hard-done-by Angry Mchobo, and how he can't catch a break. Somehow, I feel that will not get the reception you hope for here.
No. Not even CanadaMatt can save the Edmonton Oilers.
No one can.
No one.

It will be the same as every year. Katz and Lowe will put the word out to the Edmonton propaganda outlets to come up with some bizarre fancy stats to show that they were actually good and that the universe conspired against them. Then 99% of the fans will believe it like the programmed automatons they are are.

Man. Oilers media are just the worst. And they wonder why players don't want to play in Edmonton. What a hack.

Oh I see, thanks for the refresher.
I’m just very confused then. With all the 1,000s of ligitimate reasons to point at laugh at that team up north, why on earth do we need to make up stuff, including (but not limited to):
- McDavid could have signed for another team for the same money and;
- McDavid rarely faces the media after a loss.
Neither of these two things are factually accurate. It’s those type of posts that get quoted/referenced on an Oiler board and used as examples to paint all flames fans as no-nothing-morons. (As we do when it happens the other way around)
The well of stupidity in Edmonton is seemingly never ending, and it’s such high quality stupidity. I don’t know why people feel the need to make stuff up...just use the magnificent gift that tiny infant baby Jesus has already provided.

Puljujarvi has to have zero value. Dumbest player in the NHL coming off season-ending surgery for a significant injury?
They've handled this worse than Yakupov.

Sure, hip problems in normies are usually an age and wear/tear issue, but not athletes that play a very physical sport.
Although with Edmonton, I wouldn't be surprised if it is an issue with their medical staff and coaches forcing him to play injured to the point surgery is now needed.

John Gillies has had hip surgery. Thatcher Demko too. Now, goalies may be different I guess.

MacDavid certainly could have signed for a shorter term on his contract. There are plenty of examples of players finishing their ELC and doing just that.

Well in in the case of Gillies you can argue he went from one of the top goaltending prospects outside the NHL to a borderline AHL goaltender post-surgery.
