Was at the game. Not the best football I’ve ever seen but a win is a win. Didn’t think Pacific had anything about them at all, and Cavalry definitely deserved the win. Good crowd and atmosphere.
However, it was a very very soft penalty……

For me Klomp (no.4) is a very good player. Not spectacular, but does all the little things very well and rarely makes a mistake. Has stood out for me the last two games I’ve been to.

Kobza is turning into a total stud. Could make a case for U-21 player of the year IMO.
Unfortunately he doesn't qualify as a U-21. Kobza is a 2001 birth year so he's at least 22. Otherwise he would have nearly fulfilled our U-21 minutes requirement by himself.
As it is we are using Ntignee, Henry, Smith-Doyle, Harms and Myroniuk to try to get those minutes. If Ntignee is out for the year then expect to see a lot of Henry the rest of the way. We're at 1348 of the required 2000 minutes for U-21 players so we need 93 minutes per game on average the rest of the way. I'm sure we'll get there but it's going to be a factor in lineups for the remaining games.

Henry was a real nice addition and nice to see him a lot into the lineup and looks right at home
Hopefully we keep rolling, wrap up first place and can play the kids the last two or three games to get the U21 minutes and give some other guys a bit of a breather heading into the playoffs

Kobza was born in November 2001 so he is 21 now. My bad, somehow I was off by a year. He's still a stud.
Those U-21 minutes might be a challenge, especially if Ntignee is out long-term as rumoured. At least Henry has looked pretty good because he'll probably have to see the pitch a lot down the stretch.

Went to my first Cavalry match yesterday, had a great time. Lots of energy and the crowd had a good vibe. We went with some friends that are STH in return for taking them to the Dawgs for the first time. Definitely looking forward to going again.
One small thing we decided the Dawgs do a bit better - concession variety and price. It's the age old question could you sell more beer if it was cheaper? But at half time the lineups were huge so I guess they would have to open more locations too. Merchandise was great for Cavalry. Parking was a bit tougher to get out of.
Weirdly annoying things - the pillars in front of the stands and the clock not counting up through injury time. I get why the pillars are there, but the clock is perplexing.
All in all, a very fun day out. We were front row in section 108 so the perfect spot for the penalty shot.
I compare them to the Dawgs, whose product I know better, as they both draw in that 4-5000 range and are looking to grow. I think if Cavalry keep getting new fans through the door they will have a decently high rate of repeat attendance. The on field product definitely holds the interest of a casual fan.

Myroniuk is playing USports now with MRU so he's no longer with the team. Think they can get 90 if Holliday can make a start in goal though.
The injury time clock thing does my head in too. There's no legitimate reason for not doing it, is there?

Didn't realize Myroniuk is gone. Yes, Holliday does count but given that he hasn't played yet I omitted him. I think that's probably the path though - play Henry pretty much every game and get Holliday a start at some point. Smith-Doyle and Harms will chip in a few minutes as well off the bench.

Those pillars are brutal. Originally I had front row in one of the sections and was told the pillars were going to be super small. I went to the first game and called Monday morning to move those seats. The guy told me that what was supposed to be built and what ended up being built were two different things. I think they'll regret that as time goes on, because those seats have to be a hard sell.

I previously chalked this up as another Cavalry-ism, but I learned that it is actually a worldwide thing for in-stadium clocks (vs. television broadcasts). Though that might be changing.
Starting this season, the EFL has started letting the clocks tick past 45 and 90:
Quote:
Stadium clocks, scoreboards or giant screen timers in the EFL will now be left running until the completion of each half, which includes any additional time at the end of either the first or second half.
Previously, these would stop at 45 or 90 minutes, however in line with the most recent IFAB guidance, including Match Officials’ new approach to time keeping, this will now change for the upcoming season (where technology allows).

The answer is definitely "yes". Pricing (tickets and concessions) is a horse that has beaten to death around here, and rightfully so. Most of the regulars that sit around me have given up on buying beer and crap food, or greatly reduced it. Instead, they hit up Kildare's beforehand, and the tailgates in the parking lot are growing every week.
Of course, they are free to price their beer as they wish, and I am free not to buy it. I'm just waiting for the tailgate crackdown to try and force those pesky loyal supporters inside earlier for the Spruce Meadows shakedown.

As one of the few CP people I know in real life, next time you go, send me a message. I go to 2/3 of the matches as part of a season ticket split, and I'm right next door in 109. I'll even buy you a beer - before entering.

Tail gating is the way to go. It will be interesting to see if they try to crack down on it next season.
As someone who sets up a tailgate every game....Mason Trafford actually approached us two games ago and said the clubs wants to see more tailgating happening and loves seeing us out their every game. That being said he also hinted at possibly setting up an official tailgate, which of course would just be another way to charge too much for beer.

I understand from a liability perspective that they don't want folks just drinking beer around cars.
I wouldn't mind if they offered a happy hour instead, half price beers from opening until 30 minutes before the game or something like that.

Glad to hear the club is supportive of the tailgate. I figured they would shut it down at the first opportunity. Not surprised they'd want to jump on the bandwagon and start their own; it's a great way to get people in early.

Oh 100% that's what their thinking is, and that's what will happen next season. "Thanks for getting this thing off the ground and people excited about the idea. Now we own it and you can't do it anymore, but feel free to join ours with $13 beers!".
