Saw Piers Morgan tweeting about Ronaldo being the goat, and I know people way overuse that term these days, but are there really a lot of people out there who think that guy is a better player than players like Pele and Maradona? No debate he has been an excellent player but it blows my mind anyone would even compare him to guys like that who carried whole nations to world cup wins in key central positions where you need to dig in and play two way football - wondering if that guy is just a fanboy because he got given a big interview or if a lot of people here feel that is a legit statement. To me I see a very good finisher his era who played forward and wing on the periphery of the hard work and put up most of his goals in a two team league surrounded by an all star team. Nevermind the attitude and galaxy sized ego and what that says about him as a team player.

And I'm not saying this because I think Messi is that guy either, the recency bias is just staggering and wondering how widespread the sentiment is.

Maradona is always the player that comes to mind for me, when it comes to being the goat.

Look at Ronaldo’s CL scoring. Look at his international scoring. Look at his longevity.

He’s the GOAT.

Ronaldo, Messi, Pele, Maradona, are the four that get talked about and I don’t think I’m qualified to pick one as the GOAT.

But I do think Ronaldo is in the conversation.

No player has dominated for longer, with different teams, across different leagues, and internationally, like he has .

I would agree with this, same here. Not that you're not qualified, but its a sport that has had so many greats who were great at so many different elements of the game.

I wouldnt say that Ronaldo is the GOAT but I would certainly accede that he is at the very least in the conversation and GOAT adjacent.

I'm not a huge Ronaldo fan. I would take Messi over him. That said, his skill is incredible and his dedication to competition is also phenomenal. I think it's probably fair to consider him among the GOATs overall, and he must be among the GOAT strikers in the game. I always think of this video with Ronaldo and wonder how many could do what he does. He's a phenom.

Yeah, Ronaldo feels more similar to someone like Ovechkin where you good call him the GOAT in terms of goal scoring, but Pele, Messi, Maradona are more complete offensive players like Gretzky and Lemieux who would be the accepted GOATs in hockey.

Iran just hit the post twice in a matter of maybe 4 seconds?

They're looking far better than their heavy loss to England would suggest.

Crazy finish. Not sure I've ever seen a goal in the 98th minute, let alone the 101st.

Rough half for Qatar. Could've been awarded a penalty but weren't, and then a defender slips and gives Senegal a goal.
