If we didn't trade Monahan he would have exactly zero goals right now.

I was happy to see him score.

LOL. I watched WKRP in Cincinnati during the pandemic and for some reason all this Sean Monahan talk made me think of the episode "Real families", where a tv crew follows Herb all day and everyone said the exact same thing to the television crew. "Herb Tarlek is a hard worker, a loyal husband, and an all around fine person."
I knew it was remote, but thought someone would get a kick out of it.

That was a classic Monahan goal. In the right place to get the puck, and puts the puck in just the right place. Making it look easy. Hope he gets a load of goals like that and stays fully healthy this season.

Too bad there wasn't a condition where Montreal sends Flames a pick if Monahan meets certain performance criteria. Just a situation where one team had all the leverage.

Monahan with a ton of ice time too. Good for him.

The way I’ve always viewed this has been Monahan + 1st for Kadri. Which is still a trade I do 100%. That said I am very happy for Monahan and hope he hits it out of the park this year.

Absolutely agree with this however watched some of that TO/Mont game to see who "stood out".

Imagine my surprise when #91 turned out to be Monny and prior to the goal was winning puck battles along the boards in TOs end, playing 200 foot hockey (where'd he learn that ! )and made a great pass to Caufield on a miss. He played well for the two periods I saw and good on him.

It's the start of the season so who knows but he looked good last night.

^ He was playing 200 foot hockey here last season, but was playing mostly with Lucic and whoever, then got injured again. I think he learned from Sutter too.

Good luck to Monahan this year, it was great to see a quick goal on his birthday!

I haven't seen that show...is the punchline that they end up following him to seedy motel(s)?

I watched the game just to see Monahan, and to me he looked good.

Stats show it too - 74% xGF last night, and a goal.

Hopefully he has a big season, I didn't really want to move the guy and would have much rather used a first to move Lucic.

Yup. the surprise at winning puck battles is surprising to me. Even while fighting through the injury he was going to the boards a lot more in the last 2 years.

Yeah, too bad Lucic to Boston didn't work out.

Funny that Monahan was traded for nought but cap space yet will end up getting cheered when he comes back to the dome while his old buddy was a top star in the league last year and will end up getting booed when he comes back.
