I think you're overthinking it.

Remember last season when everyone was screaming to trade Gaudreau and Tkachuk and get what they could for them to change the face of the team.

Gaudreau had 49 points in 56 games.
Tkachuk had 43 points in 56 games.

I don't believe the Flames get the return from these two a year ago that they got tonight for Tkachuk.

I think adding Weegar actually excites me more than adding Huberdeau. And I ####ing LOVE adding Huberdeau.

How can anyone “not be a fan of this trade” ?

Tkachuk was gone. No matter what he was gone.

So let’s say Huberdeau makes it clear he won’t sign here (just for fun speculation sake). Ok, fine. So we still have the prospect and the first round pick.

Plus we have Weegar. Let’s say Weegar signs. We have a top d-man, a good prospect and a first. Let’s say Weegar doesn’t sign. Then we trade him for at least another first.

Then we trade Huberdeau for at least another 1st.

So worst case is we get three 1st round picks plus a good prospect. Thats WORST case.

Best case is obvious.

Holy #### it gets better the more I analyze

Even better when you put Weegar in his rightful spot at the very top of that pile.

So did TJ Brodie - I miss him on this team every day.

Kylington’s brain produces flatulence like a lactose-intolerant who drinks nothing but chocolate milk. And he handles the puck like a live grenade. I still want him in the lineup every night because he can Instant Transmission his way out of mistakes.

I am soooo damn curious about what other deals were out there. I imagine there were probably some jaw-dropping deals from some different teams that probably helped to drive up the price to this.

LoL - "Kyrou is off-limits." lol

Since we have cap space, why not sign UFA Bergeron for 2 years $8M per? I like that better than Kadri.

One asset became 4.

They can help you now if you sign them, or help you later if you flip them for futures.

It could become 5 or 6 assets when all is said and done.

That future 1st may come in real handy too. If they do extend their window, that's an easy one to flip for help because you don't lose your first in any upcoming year by doing it.

This was brilliance.

Having Weegar pushes Kylington down to the 3rd pair, which I think will be good for him too. The defence is better than last season after this trade.

11. The sidewalks get icy here in the winter. What if a player slips and injures themselves?

12. Does Huberdeau collapse under the pressure of having to replace Johnny? Having the same last three letters in their names will draw that much more scrutiny on the comparison. Does our new Johnny have the mental fortitude to make it through intact?

13. Is the team literally Colorado now? No, and that worries me. Even if we were Colorado, Kadri might be gone and that keeps me up at night.

14. Has Treliving factored in the eventual heat death of the universe? It will be extremely hard to contend for the cup when the universe is unable to sustain processes that increase entropy. Management really needs to think long term here.

I wonder if part of the reason Tkachuk was willing to sign in Florida was the chance to play with another elite playmaker in Huberdeau. Yes they have other good forwards there, but I’m sure the thought crossed his mind at least once.

Might have been fun to see Tkachuk’s reaction when he learned who was going to Calgary from Florida.
