Technically were the play in games part of the regular season or do we classify them as post season games? I think it’s been made clear here they were not part of the 16 team playoffs.

According to Hockey-Reference.com, 119 goalies played at least one NHL game this season.

*does math*

So it's actually only 99.16% of goalies who would not make a stupid play like that late in the game.

The play in games were not playoff games.

It may be acceptable to call them post season games. I believe that’s the differentiation the NHL used.

They can’t be playoff games if the Oilers were not in the playoffs:

Saying the Oilers have lost six playoff games in a row and 9 of 10 is accurate because it doesn't include the play-in round. It dates back to the Oilers-Anaheim series.

I think old pissy Leon secretly wants to be like tkachuk. Ever since the all star game drama after the Kassian incident Leon chews his mouth guard, starts this after the whistle business. I think he has chucky’s picture in his dressing room locker.

Speaking of which, getting close to the 5 year anniversary of the May 5 Cinco de Choke-o historic collapse in ANA.

A great reminder...I'll have to dial it up on youtube before re-watching the Oilers loss tonight.

The Chicago series was a play-in, not a playoff. It's funny seeing SN consider it a playoff series for the Oilers. It wasn't. If you're not one of the 16 you missed the playoffs.

Right. Smith was an idiot, but Draisaitl contributed to the clusterF.

I bet Smith loves making passes like that because if he makes it he feels special. If he gives it away he gets a chance to make some diving desperation save to look godly and feel even more special. If he screws up he just deflects or takes no responsibility. Win-Win for him even if they lose.

It’s embarrassing how arrogant that team is even when they have no reason to be.

Yep, they had two forwards in the neutral zone waiting for a pass with Draisaitl right at the center line. I would not be shocked at all if it was planned.

Smith is an idiot for picking a bad moment to try something like that, but it seems to be what they were all going for in that play.

Notice how Singh's dejected voice when the Kings scored, you almost didn't even know that was a goal if you didn't see it.
If that was an Oilers goal.. well we know how dramatic he can get.

Dunning-Kruger Effect.

The people most likely to be arrogant are the ones incapable of understanding that they have nothing to be arrogant about. Not having the ability to recognize their own faults, they assume they have none and are therefore superior to everyone else.

Smith and the Oilers are borderline narcissists.
