Vladar is a great pick up
Tre has really been good in signing free agents over the last couple of years.

This year’s free agency market for goaltenders was massive. It will be decent next season as well. Every season, a new group of goalies come on strong and another group becomes available. Dipping into that market isn’t hard

Not to mention, Edmonton still doesn’t really know what they have in Mikko Koskinen yet. What if he proves to be a tremendous goaltender? That’s just as likely to happen as him proving he’s not got the goods.

lol.

Good thing they got those 3 goals and 14 assists in 38 games with a -9 instead of 2.13 GAA and .927 save % with 8 shutouts in 35 games.

It always boggles my mind when people scoff at paying 6M for the most important player on the team.

You could get 2 3rd liners with that kinda money

An average starter costs 4M plus these days, not the position to cheap out on. Ask the Oilers

Thought I'd bump this thread. Overshadowed this series by Oettinger, but he played pretty lights out himself. Calm, cool and collected, I feel pretty good about Marky throughout the rest of the playoffs.

Made a ton of clutch saves with the series hanging in the balance. Fantastic free agent signing that continues to pay dividends. Brad has taken a ton of flak over the past few years and doesn't get enough credit for the good work he's done.

Oetinger getting all the accolades but Marky was all world too. Oetinger even admitted it was tougher on Marky. Periods with 5-6 shots but still having to make 10 bell saves. All the pressure was on him, Oetinger playing with house money. Marky is the real deal for sure.

Yup. Lots of love for Oettinger coming out of nowhere, but Markstrom stood strong making big saves when it mattered.

That save on the late breakaway was as much of a clutch play as Johnny's goal.

Yeah during the season you see Talbot and his 3.6 and you might think that's better value. But in these moments, you see why you paid to get away from those middling guys. Worth every penny now.

Played outstanding. Didn't allow Oettinger to steel it in the end.
This was easily the 2 best goalies in the playoffs so far, Markstrom was damn solid.

^ agreed

That glove save on Pavelski early was absolutely massive too.

Great series by Marky

The only way the Flames could win that series against a goaltender playing lights out like that was to have solid enough goaltending to keep the games within reach. If they lost last night in OT he would have been the one Flame that totally held his end of the bargain.

Does Markstrom have a problem against the oilers?

It doesn’t help we leave him out to dry on a good amount of the chances.
