Also considering now that the leadership intagible is more a strength of Monahan's, as opposed to Lindholm. And we need leadership, as well as all the other things.
Okay. the Button interview today on the Flames website had him talk about player interviews and how some were straight up prepared with the same one dimensional interview answers. I think he was talking about Monahan. Why?
Almost Verbatum two interviews:
If you go to TSN and look up the combine interview with Rishaug its the same.
Maybe I am looking into this too much but I don't like the fact he doesn't show much outside of what he practiced with a PR trainer.
Okay, I admit I am being a little too critical but it is a little off putting to me.
Hockey player interviews in front of a camera are notoriously awful and patterned. I would assume GM's and scouting staff are able to ask questions in their interviews to pull the personality out and push some buttons.

Yup. Weisbrod said that when they do interviews they do not ask the same boring questions. They ask them stuff that takes them out of their comfort zone. He said he likes to see if they can think on their feet.

I think he was talking about the majority of prospects. Most are coached to give certain answers.
You think Monahan has the same three lines memorized for when he's in the dressing room around the guys with none of that kind of on the spot pressure? Doubtfully. Phaneuf is the exact same and was worse when he was younger. He's obviously had training, but now he comes back with the same 3-4 responses to every question even if it doesn't answer the question itself.
Just cause you're not "great" as expressing yourself openly in front of cameras at 18 years of age (or similar types of situations), most times it really has no relevance to how you are outside of that situation. If he leads on the ice in terms of his play, I can take media personality stuff with ease.
Lindholms talking like a typical young swede that's just come overseas. Sounds just like Backlund, actually.
There's going to be flaws with whomever we take, whether it be personality, traits, whatever. So long as it doesn't affect what they can accomplish on the ice.
I can't wait till 2/3s of cp explodes tomorrow when the Flames don't take monahan Hahah yelling to fire feaster, and weisbord because they are reading way to much into this draft and getting so hung up on little teen boys that have yet to prove anything other than they can play junior hockey.

Hi everyone from the media lunch area near the Hudson River!
I just arrived in New York City [Friday] morning at about 9 a.m. ET and it's been great.
It's a crazy city and there are certainly a lot of people. I guess I'm just looking forward to getting around the city once I get the opportunity. My mother [Cathy] and father [John] and sister [Jacqueline] are here, as is my sister's boyfriend, some aunts, uncles, cousins and my grandparents. I have about 35 people here with me so I guess you can say we went all out!
I basically have been in the gym since the conclusion of the NHL Scouting Combine [earlier this month]. I haven't had a day off since two weeks after the season ended in Ottawa. I took some time off then, but I've been in the gym every day and have been skating two or three times a week. I continue to work on my game and do whatever I can for next year in order to become an impact player in the NHL.
I really enjoyed the Stanley Cup Final. Watching my favorite player, Jonathan Toews was great. He's a leader and even when he's not putting up points, he's contributing in other ways. It could be playing that strong two-way game or winning face-offs or just making sure the whole team is ready to go. So that was really fun to watch. It was certainly a great series.
It's great to be in the company with such great draft eligible players. All the players here are so good. Thing is, you never know where you will go [in the draft] but you're always competing against each other on the ice. Now, I guess, it's time to just sit back and relax and let the cards fall where they're supposed to. It's an exciting time and just being able to share it with the other prospects is awesome.
I'll check back again after the draft. Thanks for reading.

I just wish there was more stuff about Lindholm. No one is really pushing him that hard, yet he is usually ranked higher than Monahan.
Monahan sure is being hyped up, but for me, my suspicious nature always make me leery of things that people are trying overly hard to sell me. I'll admit, it's not always the most rational way to look at things, but it's like a natural instinct.
I'd be happy with either pick because quite frankly, I don't have a lot of first hand information on either.

Found this little tidbit on Monohan from an article.
North American Central Scouting chief scout Mark Seidel considers Monahan a more advanced version of Philadelphia Flyers centre Sean Couturier at the same age. Seidel added that in at least three previous recent drafts, Monahan would have been picked first overall.
That is a bold statement.
What a good year to pick 6th!
