Jankowski won a couple draws there pretty cleanly. Reminds me a lot of Nieuwendyk. He also isn't afraid to go to the front of the net and get his nose dirty. Nice blend of size and skill! Monahan, Jankowski, Colborne, Knight up the middle? All big and all skilled. Awesome.
Good to see Janko scoring at such a good clip this year. Too bad his linemates aren't finishing a little more, the assist total is low for such a good passer. Wonder why he isn't on a line with Mauermann. Looking at their team sheet, random thought but Mauermann is only one year ahead of Jankowski in school but he's four years older?! Guy is gonna be almost 25 when he finishes. Just hammers home how young the kid still is compared to his competition.

Mauermann is mostly PP specialist who darts in for loose pucks like a little weasel, but when you look at that team it's easy to see why they have a winning record...one word!
Gillies!
Pathetic offense team which makes Jankowski's 7 goals all that more impressive, I think 5 of the 7 he created all by himself.
Since i keep reading that Providence has no offensive help for Jankowski is there anything the team can do to surround him with better talent? Not sure how the NCAA works. (I am guessing it is nothing like Jr where players can be traded.
I remember going into the season hearing that Providence was suppose to be developing/on the verge of being a good team but it seems that the team doesn't have much talent and Jankowski isn't being put in a situation to succeed? I don't know if 2 more years of NCAA in Providence would be good for him, can he still join junior hockey?

He could probably join junior hockey, but he needs to fill out his frame to have a realistic shot at turning pro. It is probably better that he stays in college, so he has more time to work in the gym (vs being on the road and playing a lot of games)
anybody watch the game and any comments on his general play last night?
From post-game:
The Friars then took a 1-0 lead at 1:30 of the second period when sophomore Mark Jankowski (Dundas, Ontario) skated down the nearside, beat two Army defenders and slid the puck across the top of the crease to an open Trevor Mingoia (Fairport, N.Y.), who slotted home his first goal as a Friar.
Rooney put the Friars up 2-0 at 1:19 when he beat the Army defense through the neutral zone and fired high past Tadzak for his third goal of the year, with Jankowski earning his second assist of the night on the play.

This is Jankowski's problem. He dishes to someone who finally gets his first of the season in late december. If he had some scorers to work with, he'd have a different stat line.
is that an assumption, or have you watched (or read from people who have watched) that that is why is offensive numbers seem low?
It's as educated a statement as I can make. I've watched him (video) play a few times this season. He plays mostly on the third line.He gets special teams but doesn't play with Mauermann who is team's best goal scorer. Janko has 7 goals, which is second on the team behind Mauermann's 10. Friars are known in the division as a defensive low scoring team.
Jankowski is still among the youngest of college hockey players (bottom 20% I believe)
At one point his stat line was 7 goals and 1 assist I believe, lots of plays dying away from his stick.
He was picked as a project. He's still got about 80% of the journey left to make. Some of the superficial stat stuff is because of the team. They lean on Gillies to win games for the most part.
If he was playing with a couple 10 goal scorers, I would be a lot more worried.

Why is he only on the 3rd line?
At the end of last season the word around here was that he would be getting premium ice-time this season. Why not. Do the Friars have 2 offensive dynamos ahead of him? Who are they?

Everything I have heard has Jankowski on the 2nd line.
