This is may be the best Lions team I have seen in my lifetime as they look solid on both sides of the ball and there's a lot more going on here than the Stafford to Megatron years. I was one of the people that snickered at Campbell's introductory presser but it's clear there's more substance to his methods as this is a well coached football team. I'm happy for Lions fans as it's good to see perennial losing markets have some success.

Ehh. They kind of remind of the Dick Vermeil-era Chiefs with Trent Green. Lots of offensive explosions, but the defense and QB ultimately aren't good enough to go toe-to-toe with the better teams in the conference.

That said, Dick Vermeil-era Chiefs is still a massive upgrade on what they were previously.

The Lions are flat track bullies. They are very good against weak teams/units but when they face good teams/units they struggle.

Seattle isn't amazing but you could see how easily their offense ripped apart the Lions defense. Same thing last year against the Eagles.

Goof is the epitome of this. If his receivers are wide open he can hit them, once they are covered he becomes useless. Any level of competent defense and he goes back to the QB that put up 3 points in the SB with McVey making all the pre-snap reads for him to try and dumb it down as much as he could.

The Lions are a fun team for the fans now, and after how bad they have been that is likely enough. But with their limitations they likely will struggle to have anything more than fun regular seasons.

Yeah, that's sort of where I was going with my Vermeil-era Chiefs comparisons. Those teams always put up a tonne of points and were fun to watch in the regular season, but would usually be one and done in the playoffs.

Well they beat the Chiefs. They have maybe the best offensive line in the NFL and that can be the difference between any QB looking good or great.

Unlike previous Lions teams this one is a lot better on the offensive and defensive lines. I think the NFC has some pretty clear cut tiers where San Francisco and Philly are a few steps above anyone. I'd put the Lions, Cowboys, and Seahawks in the next one. Than there's a slew of teams like New Orleans, Green Bay, Atlanta, Tampa Bay, Washington, Los Angeles who probably win 7 to 9 games. Vikings might get to 7 if they figure things out, but them and the Giants should be next although Arizona might be more like them if they keep playing hard. Than you have the Bears and Panthers.

The Trent Green/Priest Homes/Dick Vermail Chiefs had like 3 HOF guys on their offensive line. They were a top scoring offence for 4 years with that line even with middling WR's and a system type QB. But those teams never had much on defence as Jared Allen broke into the league at the end of that time. At least this Lions team has Hutchinson and the makings of a better secondary.

The Chiefs kind of beat themselves and were missing Kelce and Jones. I thought Seattle really exposed them for what they are.

They have a really soft schedule the rest of the way, so I wouldn't rule out the #1 seed for them in the NFC. That said, would you put good money on them to beat the Cowboys, Eagles, or Niners in the playoffs?

I’d put money on them to beat the cowboys without even looking at the lineups. Cowboys can go straight to hell

Lions lost without /getting hurt David Montgomery .

Their run game / o line is their strength . I would discount them based on the Seattle game

Beauty of the NFL playoffs is there are no series. Would I take the Lions against the Eagles or 49ers in a best of 7? No chance. In a one off? They can absolutely win one game.

Senator Obvious over here. I'm not saying they can't win. I'm saying the smart money is on those other three teams.

Is it? Lions are +1800 and the other two are +600. The Lions, with a much easier schedule, are probably better value. With one off games and how much injury luck matters, I don't think the 49ers or Eagles are three times more likely to win the Super Bowl.

Watching it from a Seattle perspective the big takeaways I had were, first, that the O-line is (as hyped) very good indeed, but it NEEDS to be, because Goff is a very different QB when pressured. Throw him off and he'll make poor decisions. And the Seahawks' pass rush isn't even good; give him the Eagles and even though that O-line will win a lot, the occasions where they don't can change a game. On the other side of the ball, the Lions' pass rush isn't scary. It's just Aidan Hutchinson, basically, and while he'll make a few plays, he has to kind of overextend himself and try a lot of rip plays that act as free passes to hold him without a flag.

I think they are legitimately good but yes, the smart money is definitely very firmly on SF, PHI and probably (as much as I hate to say it) still DAL notwithstanding last week - they'll figure it out. EDIT: I didn't know we meant "smart money" literally in so far as the implied odds. I do think that SF and PHI are probably three times more likely to win the Super Bowl than DET so +1800 to +600 is about right.

I'll be honest, after seeing Detroit's schedule, I'm considering throwing some money on them to win the NFC.

EDIT: Nvm. +750 isn't quite worth it.

And it's also the substitute factor. Goff is fine in a great system, but you can envision Teddy doing well in that system. Same with the 49ers and Darnold. But if the Eagles have to go from Hurts to Mariota....yeah season over right there.

Raiders defensive end Chandler Jones was arrested Friday in Las Vegas, according to online jail records.

Jones was listed as an inmate at the Clark County Detention Center as of late Friday morning. He allegedly violated a domestic violence temporary protective order and was held on $15,000 bail, according to jail records.

Jones, 33, has not played this season and has been away from the Raiders since Labor Day weekend, when he made a series of social media posts aimed at the team, owner Mark Davis, general manager Dave Ziegler and coach Josh McDaniels. The Raiders placed Jones on the non-football illness list Sept. 20.
