To add to this, I think that it is highly significant that Jankowski garnered the amount of sudden attention that he did in such a short period of time, given that he has never benefitted from any high-level coaching and training ever. He is as raw as they come; how much better can he be with some experience in an actual high-performance developmental programme?

I'd rather Jankowski go to Dubuque for a year. Jim Montgomery there has done some great work with the likes of Gaudreau and Girgensons.
1 year in USHL, 2 in Hockey East, I think that would be ideal for him.

well, I am more than happy to wait and see with Jankowski to see if he is able to translate his skills against higher quality competition.
While I don't disagree with what you are saying per se, the two extremes are not mutually exclusive. There were plenty of high upside guys available at either 14 or 21. It just so happened that Calgary really like Jankowski.
If he wasn't available, there's no reason to believe that Calgary would have selected a guy with a low ceiling vs a high risk, high reward player.

His age almost made him a 2013 prospect. It will be interesting to compare him to the top prospects that are drafted out of the USHL next year. I am not sure if there are any top 5, top 10 picks coming out of the USHL next year but if there are I am hoping Jankowski has similar numbers.

I love the far reach of Calgarypuck, we're like the eye of Sauron.

Much like with CHL, I'd say point per game is a good benchmark. Even guys like Trevor Lewis and Aaron Palushaj put up that level of scoring in the USHL as 18 year olds.
Pacioretty might be a good comparable. He has a November birthday, so he played a high school hockey until he was almost 18 and then spent a year in the USHL before getting drafted 22nd overall. He put up 63 pts in 60 games before heading to university so if Jankowski can put up that level of scoring he's probably on the right track.

I trust that Feaster and Wiesbrod would make a determination as to what is best for Jankowski's development. If Jankowski isn't ready for college competition and can't go to college and challenge for top 6 playing time, it might not be best for him. Jankowski needs to play against better competition at this point and if he's not ready for the NCAA right now he shouldn't go there.

Maybe he is still mulling over the Saginaw Spirit and the OHL for his best development route? This gives him one full season to decide between the O and NCAA.

Anyways a year in the USHL plus a year or two in college should be his aim or time table to turning pro.

Well, it's either confidence or his agent wants him to have the option of becoming a UFA...

Or Abbotsford. He hasn't signed a CHL contract, so is free to turn pro at any time - unless the USHL has a similar agreement, though I've never heard of it.

I look at these stats of NHLers that went the USHL route and then wonder how the hell Gaudreau fell to the fourth round when he had 72 points in 60 games as a 17 year old in the USHL.
I know he was about the size of a hobbit but still you think people would have looked and that production and took a flyer earlier.
