A steal? They are looking for a steal...like every team ever? They are looking for a salary dump, nothing more. This would be like the flames trying to trade Kadri and expecting to actually get something good for him. Totally unreal.

I am not degrading him here I am just telling you what happened, he had a choice between is hockey dreams and his new wife and soon to be family and he chose the latter. I think this is a guy who internally is torn, he loves his wife and being a dad yet he threw away everything he dreamed of accomplishing his whole life, he basically threw away becoming a hockey legend in a great hockey market to appease his wife and her family and so he has totally embraced that and has put hockey on the backburner. He didn't train pretty much at all this past offseason, he was too busy playing family guy and so he looks like #### out there, always gassed midway through shifts, not putting in anything but a go through the motions effort on the ice. He doesn't care about winning or the game now because I imagine that would eat him up inside because he isn't where he wanted to be. I do know Guy Gaudreau thinks he made a big mistake and I get the impression he is not a big fan of his daughter in law or her family.

Sure.
You are acting as though the Canucks are in some sort of pressure position to make a deal. Again, they are winning. They are cap compliant. They are not going to add sweeteners. They are not going to retain any money.
Any deal for Garland, at this time, is a deal that the team feels benefits the team, which means they are looking for a defence man back. If the Flames want a deal for Garland, the only deal the Canucks are looking at Tanev or Zadorov.

All the Canucks have to do is hold on to Garland until such time as they can get something for him that isn't dog water. It's not like he's hurting the team right now, as they are winning games despite him. The Flames have their own comparables for sure, but Kadri isn't one of them. He and Huberdeau are tattooed onto this organization for at least the next half decade.
Would it benefit the team to trade him if the right opportunity came up? Absolutely - they would if they could get value. Do they need to? Not really. You can make your own decision as to who that applies to on the Flames.

Connor Garland makes under 5 million and scores at a 45-55 point pace until this year. That's not unreasonable salary.

Wait until we get our hands on him. 44-55 will turn into 10-15.

Surely this is the year that our owner suddenly decides he wants to build a sustainable hockey franchise, instead of milking the city's ever-dwindling interest every single year in an attempt to ascend to Scrooge McDuck-hood!
Surely this time!

Steinberg obviously is in the know, and up to only recently (last week or so), he'd be more on the fence about the Flames moving Lindholm and Hanifin for picks and prospects, but starting last week, he's now telling callers that he knows that Conroy has the green light to deal those 2 for picks and prospects given the start.

Pretty far from an eye roller. It's been dropkicking them in the face for over a year(or much longer, depending how you look at it), but they doubled down harder than ever. Then just a couple weeks ago it sounds like Conroy was begging to hand out ridiculous unwarranted contracts.
This time for sure though, nothing to worry about... even though they've been in denial for decades. This time.

The stuff DO shared here makes me cringe. Who knows or cares what Johnny's family and wife think. Frankly, we should be far beyond talking about Johnny at all.
No comment at all on veracity, what I will say is that I have always and still maintain that Johnny never wanted to sign here. I have firm, 1st hand knowledge that he didn't even see the presentation the flames made (which was after the season had ended, around 1st week of june). The flames made a presentation over Skype he was supposed to attend but only his agent did. And agent said thanks but want to see what's out there.
Did johnny changed his mind 11th hour before free agency? Maybe. But at that point everything was already "done".

Maybe Gaudreau knew he was going to coast on this retirement contract and didn’t want to taint his image as a Flames lol
We all should thank Johnny just like the Panthers fans on Huberdeau

The eye roll was for "buyers because they are mathematically still in it". Flames haven't done any buying when they have been realistically out of it that I can remember. They bought when they were a first place team. Ritchie for Ritchie isn't exactly buying IMO

There was so much stuff that was reported at the time, that it is hard to know what actually happened.
I seem to recall one report that said Treliving and Edwards had reached a deal in principle with Gaudreau at the 11th hour. When it came down to signing the contract, Gaudreau suddenly wanted to negotiate more, at which point Edwards lost his #### on Gaudreau. There was a rumour that Gaudreau may have wanted to circle back to Calgary if the Philly and NJ offers he was hoping for didn't materialize, but the bridge was burned because of how Edwards reacted.
I do kind of believe this version because even Gaudreau's agent seemed apologetic after the fact and thought a deal was agreed to. It also matches Edwards' reputation.
