Probably Johnny but honestly I think it would make sense for both sides.
I think Huberdeau would fit better with Columbus young players and Gaudreau fits here for sure.

No Gaudreau please, Lindholm would re-sign and we'd be locked into permanent mediocrity.
Let Huberdeau man the tank for long as it lasts.

I want it just for the Bob McKenzie "The trade is John for Jon" tweet.

As a follow up to my Columbus and Johnny say no, what is the reason for Columbus to make this deal?
They don't get younger, they don't get better at a position of need, they don't get a local player or player that sells tickets, they add a year to the deal (I think) and they get the player that has much more questions.
Gaudreau had 74 points in 80 games last year playing with nobody. The Flames didn't have a ton more players but better than Columbus did and Hubredeau didn't come close to those numbers. There also isn't really any reason to think that Hubredeau is going to be any better than Johnny going forward either or that he would fit in better in Columbus.

I just posted this pretty much word for word in the OOT thread, haha. Sorry, didn't copy you on purpose.
I'd do it in a heart beat.

Not only would I trade Huberdeau for Gaudreau, I'd retain salary to essentially swap the cap hit between the two players.

Gaudreau only played 11:55 and was benched for the last 16 minutes. Sounds like Columbus could use a center that took him to 100+ points!
Nobody is going take Huberdeau off our hands but we could send them Lindy.

That's really weird about Gaudreau. For anyone who has been paying attention, what's the problem? Is he not working hard and making mistakes? Is he just not gelling?
I never held it against him leaving. He gave the Flames his best years and didn't owe us anything. It didn't seem like a great career move though by likely losing some career earnings and leaving a city where he was a rock star and would have been in the rafters one day.
I doubt he would come back, but I would take him back.

But not as beloved by Ohioans.

I have heard Orange Julius level rumors that there was some legit regret on Johnny’s side a year later that he didn’t stay. I know it wouldn’t happen but what if it were for Kadri? The Jackets went after him and missed. We all know from experience if Kadri says no the first time it doesn’t mean he will say no the next.

Some Columbus posters on reddit said that he has missed practices for family matters. His wife has been pregnant with their second. They also said Guy Gaudreau's health wasn't good, hopefully that is not the case. I had heard that Guy was making his way back here for some event.

Murray Edwards told Johnny to eff off he's not coming back.
Who wants a guy that's getting benched in a 2-1 loss and his effort is getting called out by his coach. Not the first time a coach has publicly lasted his effort this is what the 4th time?

Did Edwards in fact tell Gaudreau to GFY? I wonder if this is accurate, or if it was something someone said on CP.

I have heard from someone reliable that when free agency started they circled back and tried to do a 7 year deal and Edwards told him to eff off.
It was even in the letter his agent wrote for sports illustrated when they said they tried to do a 7 year deal.
I am guessing once he saw little interest in him and the offers he got that they panicked and it's probably why he ended up in Columbus.
Pierre Lebrun said the Devils offered 9 or just below.
Philly didn’t care to make cap space otherwise I think he would have ended up in Philly.
Pretty telling that he wasn't that highly regarded around the league.
We probably dodged a bullet. I don't think he cares much.
Seems like a lot of the NHL believed Tkachuk carried the mail on that line.

If Gaudreau doesn’t have a hard coach, he is not what he can be.
His own dad literally said as much on tv.
