I am really hoping Pelletier pops and we don't need to spend assets on a top 6 winger.

Duclair or Garland would be ideal targets. I think they’d cost a 2nd and a top 10 prospect on our board.

I think adding Garland would create a mess of trouble after this season regarding the cap.
I like the player but I'm not sure the Flames are in a position (which is honestly really really bad considering where this team is in the standings) to add term beyond this year.
I think if we're adding someone this TDL, it has to be an expiring contract or we'll need to somehow include a contract on the way out.
The Flames already have over $82 million committed for next season when the cap is projected at $83.5 million.

When's the last time a trade deadline acquisition worked out for the flames? History should be the teacher on this one.

I agree with you, but the Flames actually have something like $80.5M committed to 17 regulars with Kylington, $78M if Kylington goes on LTIR, or the Flames get out of that contract. Also, there's a significant chance that the cap will go all the way up to $86.5M.

Rob Ramage. He was key in the run to the cup when Suter went down with an injury.

If we count Toffoli as an early trade deadline acquisition, then I think it worked out just fine.
As an aside, I'm pretty sure we acquired Andersson indirectly on the 2015 trade deadline, by sending Baertschi(sp) to the Canucks for a 2nd round pick.

Schenn and Duclair are who I am interested in. IMO you can acquire both without a 2023 1st, Coronato, Pelletier, or Zary having to move. I think we can justify moving any other pieces given our contention window and situation with contracts.
Ideal lines following this:
Dube-Lindholm-Toffoli
Duclair-Kadri-Huberdeau
Mangiapane-Backlund-Coleman
Pelletier-Lewis-Ruzicka
Lucic
Hanifin-Andersson
Zadorov-Tanev
Weegar-Schenn
Stone
Vladar
Markstrom

Why would Florida trade Duclair for a marginal prospect or a 2nd or lower? Conversely, the fact he hasn't played a game this year due to injury should make any team very cautious - who knows what he's going to look like?

I would much rather flames acquire domi than duclair. Think domi would fit Sutters system far better than duclair. That said flames have to prove in the next month that they deserve Tre trying to pick up help.

They also picked Dube with the pick they got for Kris Russell in 2016. No doubt deadline deals tend to be better for the sellers in most cases. But if you don't try when you have a chance...you tend to be a perrenial loser.
I was okay with deals last year. This year I'd be sitting out or maybe looking to help broker salary transactions. Unless a better longer term piece was there to be had.

Given the quality of our prospects outside of like the top 3, that's not a hard price to stomach. Outside of wolf, coronato and maybe zary, a lot of them are pretty expendable
Haven't we dealt a couple of our upcoming 2nd rounders already though?

They can’t fit him if he is activated. Garland has also been floated as a buy out candidate

The problem I have with adding Duclair is the very next move will be demoting Pelletier to the AHL. He won't be on the 4th line. Maybe the playoffs, but that role doesn't help him grow as a player playing 8 mins a night. At some point, you want to take a big stride forward you need to play the young guys and hope you got something.
Duclair doesn't move the needle, this team won't be a threat with these moves.

So would I . Duclair has been really inconsistent year-to-year throughout his career. Plus, that is not an insignificant injury that he is coming off of. If the price was really low (like free), sure take a gamble on him. Domi will probably cost a lot to acquire given the season he is having. But all things being equal, Domi would be much preferable.

although that was the year later (doesn't discredit he was a useful acquisition)
Brian MacLellan was the key 89 deadline acquistion (to the chagrin of Perry Berezan)
with honourable mention to the 04 guys Sutter picked up (he basically had to as that team was pretty thin) the best deadline/pre deadline work still has to go to Fletcher in 86 I'd think nabbing Mullen in Feb and Tonelli in March

Florida is scarce on picks, Duclair hasn’t played, and has already mentioned they’d have to be forced to waive someone or him if they wanted to make the cap. We have the space.
