The idea of not constantly "documenting their lives" is completely alien to them.

Do you memorize all your phone numbers too?
Seriously, I'd be jealous if you did. I constantly mix up the order of what happened in the last 3 to 30 days. I have to go back to my phone and use emails or photo evidence to verify the accuracy of my memory and recreate an accurate time line. Brain just dumps info.
Or as Pepsi put it, "When the #### did this happen? I think I'm experiencing it again! Neat!"

Is it for that moment when someone says "Pfft, I don't believe for one f-ckin' second that you went to that concert" and you're all like "Oh yeah, check out this video I took; checkmate, bitch."
I get taking photos here and there, although I think there's a quality to it that's lost now that everything is entirely digital. There's something special about looking through the old photo albums mom kept back when you actually had to take your rolls of film to get developed at K-mart.
|
There's a ton of people who audit social media. Oh. You don't have digital evidence? It never happened. A friend once asked my wife what I did to be romantic. She didn't believe my wife until pictures were shown because my wife had not posted the vast majority of those types of things on her social media. She only posted key moments in her life.
But yeah... social media audits... checkmate bitch! indeed.
I dislike the facet that photography is so disposable and posed. It's almost the opposite of film photography. I appreciate the fact I can capture what I want without much worry via retakes if necessary (ie: dual capture vs single shot via film), but I hate that many like to demand 50-200 pictures just to aim for 1-2 pics. Or they document #### like they're trying to do a stop motion video with real photographs.
"Take it again. I wasn't ready. Take it again. Can you not take ####ty photos? Different pose? Different background? OMG why did you let me blink?? Different combinations of people and positions? Serious! Silly! Pre candle! Wish! Post candle! Cake cutting!"
Personally, I do a thing where I love taking pictures of "outtakes". You have like half a dozen camera phones pointed at the same direction, I'll point mine at the half a dozen dummies. My wife is taking videos and pics of our kids, I'll point at her and capture her proud face.... plus occasionally turn it towards the real subject, in case she forgot to push record or whatever stupid dumb thing. If photographing me, I'll do the requested posed look. But if I'd rather you just record a video of me or I'll do some exaggerated poses that aren't common selfie poses.

I take a few videos at concerts sometimes so I can send them to people who I know would like to be at the concert with a "look where I am" message, so that they can be vicariously excited. Of course that's not a circumstance where I'm recording the whole thing, just, like, 15 seconds of a recognizable song or something like that.

Photography that is of natural behaviour and not posed for is often the best kind and most interesting to look at. There's an organic quality to it as you're actually capturing life as its naturally unfolding rather than an image that took minutes of preparation and throwaway attempts where people are forcing expressions and trying to contort their bodies at just the right angle to pass the sharing test.
Old photos are great because no one was trained into treating cameras as anything special that required much thought or intention. That's probably why people looked so elegant and interesting in them, as opposed to uh..today.
Also beauty filters scare the #### out of me. My sister does tiktoks and she doesn't even look anything like herself in them. Looks like a doll, AI graphic or fembot. If thats a concern for her, an untouched video would look far better. Whatever they've done with that, it's gone too far.

I knew I was taking a risk eating that but phew has it ever come back to haunt me and those around me. Ordinarily I’d be proud but it’s nasty enough that I NEED to clear the room. Even the pet vacated. Omg. So I suppose WRGMG is the fart has too powerful an odor to appreciate it. Ferocious I tell ya.

As Sliver said not every concert is professionally filmed/recorded so fan footage is all that's out there. Would be especially good for people in places where bands never tour, like Africa or the Middle East.
Of course, if that person filming is right in front of me and doing it obnoxiously it would turn into a real gear grinder.

I do still quite easily remember my parents' and grandparents' phone numbers from when I was a kid... but that's beside the point, because writing down phone numbers is not akin to taking photos of every damned thing you ever do.
Maybe your life is just that much more eventful and exciting than mine, but I struggle to imagine what it is that you'd need to take photos of to remember straight. Like... what is it exactly that you do take photos of? I don't get it. I really honestly do not understand.
I have the personal example of going on vacation and taking few photos. I don't need the photos to remember the sights I saw, and I would scarcely ever look at photos again even if I did snap 'em. I still vividly remember lots of things I saw; the things I think I subconsciously really give a damn about remembering in detail. Of the stuff I don't remember in detail: so what? I don't care if I have photos of that stuff, it doesn't really matter to me anyway.

Companies that don't let you cancel services online. No, I'm not interested in calling you, sitting on hold, and you trying to talk me out of it for half an hour. Just piss off Sirius, I listened to you for like 12 minutes total in the last year, not interested

And you have to be assertive and a bit of a dick to the people on the phone to actually cancel, otherwise they'll just keep giving you their sales pitch runaround all friggin day
I'm sure you're a nice lady, but come on, if I told you I never use the service when I was paying $2 a month, why the hell would I suddenly start using it at $20, $8, or $6

If remote work and an uncertain future don't kill off downtown Calgary - the construction closures for Green Line constructions will....
Downtown and the Saddledome area are an utter mess to get in and out of right now...

Yeah, it'll be a fun decade. This is just a appetizer too, soon real green line work will start, plus the new arena site involves moving a few roads around
Definitely just access the Saddledome from the south side going forward

Sirius is the worst of them all for that. You have to put in a morning to get it done. So annoying.

We had a listing on yellow pages that took a huge amount of ####ing around to cancel. You know you're business is dying when you need to hold customers hostage.

No kidding, went to see Kooza last weekend and figured I'd park on 14th Ave where I usually park when going to Stampede ground events. Can't access the grounds at all from the vicinity of Victoria Park LRT, have to either go down to Erlton or around to the north entrance.
