Isn't that what the Devils did with Gusev?

Because they aren't looking for a 7/8/9 defenseman. They are looking for a #4 defenseman to replace Kylington in the lineup.

This is exactly what happened with Bogosian, too.
This would actually be a pretty brilliant solution to Lucic's hit, as he could easily sign somewhere else for more than his $1M base salary. I imagine the league would have a much bigger issue with it happening in the off-season or very early in a season compared to this point where the team is effectively eliminated.

Lol Kylington is fine, growing pains of added minutes and a higher role. Flames will be looking for a guy like Braun is my guess. Reggie makes a good point, if the right depth D pops up on waivers why not toss a claim in and see.

Kylington's speed (including defensively) is a primary reason for the team's overall success this year.
Take him out and you have something a lot closer to last year's plodding, hapless non playoff team.
If the Flames are looking for a defenseman it's either
a) because they're idiots and want a repeat of 2019's fantenberg fiasco in the playoffs
b) as pure injury insurance / "get Gio a cup" lockerroom storyline
1-6, and Kylington is closer to 1/2/3 than 4/5/6, we have an overwhelmingly complete blueline.

lol you can't be serious
He has been good and the Flames aren't looking to replace him in the lineup that is more than a little overboard

If Lucic and the Flames agree to mutually terminate his contract he would lose the $3M bonus as well.

Flyers re-sign Ristolinen to a 5x 5.25M deal. Chew up that Johnny space I like it

Ristolainen is like Jack Johnson 2.0.
I have no idea how professional hockey managers are missing so hard here.

This is the new Tyler Myers contract. They are big, and they get paid.
I wonder what the Flyers do this summer. I'd almost expect them to take a run at re-signing Giroux (even if he is traded at the deadline).
Their roster isn't bad. On the back-end they have:
Provorov - Ellis
Sanheim - Ristolainen
York - ?
and then up front they have Couturier, Hayes, Laughton down the middle which isn't terrible.
I feel like they should maybe take a more boring approach to this coming off-season, as the change for the sake of change certainly did them no favours this past summer. This year they've only had Couturier for 29 games and if you look at the Flames I'd hate to see where we would be if we only had Lindholm for half of the games this year - those sort of injury problems cause real problems. Ellis has also only played 4 games this year which has to have caused issues as well.

Is Subban paying back his $6M (or even pro-rated to the days of the season he's played)?

Actually I'm not sure how it actually works re: payment. But if it's paid, it will have to count against the cap.

Isn't there some thought that Couturier may be done?

Flames fans need only look to the last time this team went deep in the playoffs........yes I mean 18 years ago, to understand why they are looking for another D man. It's got nothing to do with being idiots, or wanting to replace an existing player. It's if you go deep (which of course is by no means a guarantee), you are 100% going to need the depth, and competent depth at that.
