What do you think a bottom 4 defenceman who has never cracked 20 points, doesn’t play PP, is a 2nd unit PKer and has poor advanced stats on a strong team will return? My guess would be around a 4th.

It’s not about the rental return being bad, sure that’s great. It’s the constant inability of Conroy to maximize assets and trade when term is left. People kept shooting down anyone who was vying for a Kadri or Coleman trade saying there’s no need to they have a year left. This is what you get when there’s no term left. So people are not overreacting about it being a bad return as a rental but overall as to what it could have been.
Someone said they lost faith in Conroy, I still have faith if he trades at least one of Coleman or Kadri this year, otherwise it seems like a character flaw where he just can’t do the painful thing when he has good relationships with these players.
Sucks because I’ve enjoyed most of Conroy’s work besides this now pattern of being too accommodating to players. Tough Canadian market blah blah blah, you can still maximize on one of 4-5 assets can you not? Doesn’t always have to be a year beforehand but maybe for once?
|
Do you really think Conroy, wanted the team to feel like he sold them out last year, in the season they were having?
Only management knows for sure what was, and wasn’t on the table the last few days. Only that a sign and trade was not in the cards. At which point he took the best deal available to him. Do you really think exchanging Raz, for Zack, is going to hurt our draft position that bad. He got amazing value for a rental. If there was a better deal involving a centre, do you not think he would have taken that? I am sure this wasn’t only Connys decision, they have a management team, they have a plan, and they are not Stupid people. They still have an obligation to keep the team somewhat competitive, and not totally pull the plug on them. You don’t want to teach the young guys how to lose.

Let’s not go too wild. Whitecloud is a solid D man. Not an offensive threat though.
I don’t think it’s that wild to think the flames could get a conditional 1st for him from a bubble team with bad D

I think Bru goes down when Zayne comes up so he can get a ton of playing time

I listened to Conroy's interview on the radio, he says that they made an offer this past off season and it was turned down. Does anyone know how much was offered?

A solid middle pairing can fetch at least a 2nd, maybe 1st.
Bottom pairing , a mid round pick or nothing
We’ll see

Whitecloud was on the second pairing in Vegas and led the team this year in even-strength ice time. Bit of a stretch to dismiss him as ‘bottom 4’ and only worth a 4th.

Get real! Andersson wouldn't extend. Based on that, Conroy did the best he could do. We need to move players before they get to their free agency year. We need to stop giving no trade clauses. If we gave Ras a long term contract, I would have been more annoyed. We're not going anywhere this year or next. Stocking up on draft picks is the way to go.

If you don't give no-trade clauses, you will never sign any useful player beyond age 27. That's just part of the cost of doing business. Every player and every agent expects it, and every other team will oblige them.
Blame the league for not getting restrictions on NTCs written into the CBA.

The Flames might have done some homework on this one. Besides Wiebe playing at UND, great-uncle Keith Brown was a former teammate of Dave Lowry and Wranglers assistant coach Joe Cirella. He also played under Darryl Sutter. You have to think they got some inside scoop on the kid.

Who ever thinks Whitecloud is worth nothing, hasn’t watched him much. He is a pretty solid d who will help us a lot whether we keep him or not.

Vegas has about $5.2 million in cap space next season currently with 11 forwards, 5 defensemen, and 2 goalies signed (18 roster players total). Dorofeyev and Schmid are prominent RFAs that should be signed with raises bringing them up to 20 players and very likely over the cap.
Even if Pietrangelo's $8.8 million goes on LTIR again, they will have trouble filling out their roster and signing Andersson to an $8-9 million AAV. If they plan to re-sign him, they are going to have to do some cap wrangling.

I'm sure they'll find a way. But that also means they won't have that $8-9 million to go out and spend on other players. We know they were going to spend every dollar the CBA allows, because they always do. If it wasn't Andersson, it would have been someone else.
This way at least the Flames get assets out of Vegas spending that money.

Is he solid though? Remember this is all while being on the best team in our division. The stats don’t agree he is. Either way, what a brutal day for Conroy

We don't need more players who aren't great but who will keep us out of the basement.
I would have rather the trade without him included. Unless we are flipping him but I highly doubt it.

My beef is that the Flames grab a guy who's going to continue to block other young players so they can keep losing 2-0 hockey games and claim it's good for culture because gosh darn it we work hard. He's got a good contract! They'll probably keep him to the end and trade him for a 2032 third because hey it's a future pick.
Meanwhile Vegas basically can have a mulligan next year and the Flames say ahhh too bad. But we'll let you off the hook. Go out and make your team better because you can kick it down the road another year and give us zilch, absolute zilch for waiting. If any of these picks slide there needs to be something else like an extra third added.
