It’s because of how the MVP voting works. The voters are allowed to say that whoever scored the OT goal is their pick and their pics were due with 10 minutes left in the third period.
But there’s no real way to say if Binnington makes five game saving plays then he wins.

The NHL is desperate to pass the mantal, so to speak, to the next "golden goal" player, so no surprised McD won, although very clearly Binnington deserved it. No harm no foul though, McDavid is a hero in my books for the next few days having stuck it to the Americans. The country desperately needed this.
They might be able to nuke the #### out of us, but they'll never beat us on the ice when it matters!
