There are not many players in the history of this league that I would rather draft than Jarome Iginla.

No doubt. My point is that it’s more likely Tij won’t end being that (and I really do like him a lot!) and another player has a good chance at being better than him when they have their own careers. But if you’re that confident Tij will put up the same numbers as his dad, I can see why you’d want him more than anyone else…
That’s some huge expectations before the kid has even been drafted!

Seriously though, if he’s available when the Flames select, and they pick him, I’m celebrating hard with you. No better storyline for the Flames and I’m not sure I could be more excited about a player than him if he’s drafted by the flames.

Yeah, I mean... Conroy taking over the reigns and drafting his best friend's son in the first round... The story is just too good not to come true.
I guess we'll finally find out if the hockey gods exist or not.

If they are dead set on him and stitched his name on a jersey they aren’t going to want to trade down. Draft day will be interesting

Flames don't need a storyline, they need to start improving. Feelings don't matter, points do.

I mean... We have lots of young centers and D. You know what we don't have? A 17 year-old pure sniper with game breaking ability.

Yeesh. It’s not like he’s just a storyline. He’s incredibly talented too and would make the team better.
There might be an another player that they go with when they pick—there are a lot of good guys in the top 12-15—but drafting him if he’s available shouldn’t be a disappointment.

Also love some of the details of his game… seems to always make the right play - whether that’s a pass or a shot or a deke to beat a guy with his skill. Plus he laid a beautiful reverse hit on a kid in the USA vs Canada game at the U-18s that lead to a big goal. So few players even try that anymore and he pulled it off perfectly. Please Montreal… leave him be. Please.

I don't see how picking a winger is a disappointment. Having good scoring wingers is very important for success. We'll likely have a better pick next year, so if that's the year we get a stud D/C that works for me too.

During the Kipper retirement ceremony, the Iggy chants brought back a part of me that I forgot existed. If we draft him, even when the flames are piss poor, having that kid to rally around would be worth the price of admission. Hearing the habs or any other fanbase chant Iggy would be crushing each and every time. Imagine Tij and/or Joe winning the cup wearing the flaming C that their pops didn't get a chance to? And pops is on the ice as part of the organization. Maybe Iggy didn't get the storybook ending he deserved, yet.

Remember in 1995,
Anaheim was up at #4 and went with the best centre on the board - Chad Kilger
Tampa followed at #5 and went with the next best centre in Damon Langkow.
Both would have been better served picking Jarome Iginla, or even Shane Done even though they are wingers.
There are lots of years like this. Get the best player. If all things are equal, consider the position or the country of origin.

Thats exactly the problem. To pick tij i am turning my back on one of dickinson, Yakemchuk, buium, catton or lindstrom. Three possible cornerstone defencemen, and two actual centers. One of whom is a swift skating monster, and the other had more points in his league than only two other players one named bedard?
If he is picked ahead of those names im back to seriously questioning the direction of management.

Breaking news, we don't have a top winger either. Tampa doesn't make the playoffs without Kucherov, Boston is nothing without Pastrnak and Panarin
is the rangers best player, five of the top 10 in scoring this year are wingers.
What this team needs is a game breaking player no matter what the position.

Some fans need to pump the brakes a little here. Game breaking players get picked in the top 5. I think he's a good player but we aren't talking about a kid that has earth shattering CHL stats that point to an elite game breaking player in the NHL. His projection is top 6 winger not elite franchise player. Unrealistic fan expectations is why the Iginla's may be weary of the Flames taking him.

He’s a 17 year old that’s become a game breaker at the level he plays at. That’s all he can do and he’s done it.
That’s no guarantee that he’ll do it in the NHL, sure that’s obvious. But his development and trajectory have him gone before Flames pick on a lot of lists. He’s a fast riser and that’s not just because of his name.

Well all the players we are discussing around where the Flames pick are game breakers at their position and their level. If you can pick a game breakers on defense or center you take that over a game breaker at winger.
