I like how "insiders" like Dreger always have an excuse for failing to predict trades and justify all the nonsense they spew. As if a slow 35yr old KHLer is holding up the market? Or the 20-ish teams who don't have a shot at Tavares are not making trades because of the few teams who have a legit shot.
Let's be honest, he was making #### up about Dougie Hamilton and now he's reaching for any reason to explain why it didn't come to fruition.

Sounds legit to me. If you are a GM that has a shot at Kovalchuk, aren't you going to wait to see if he picks your team before giving up assets for Skinner or Pacioretty? I know I would wait.
Same with Tavares. I'm not going to give up assets for ROR until I know for sure Tavares isn't available to me.
Plus, the 1st round is a hold up too. The rumored ask for ROR was the 3rd overall pick (at least) from Montreal. Obviously the Habs didn't want to pay that price, so now Buffalo has to regroup and go back to other offers/discussions and decide if they now want to lower their asking price or not. And that goes for all the picks that were used today.

I think a lot of teams casually talk about a lot of scenarios without ever getting into serious talks and this is where most rumours come from as there's a lot more media leaks and people interested to find any news that casual talk gets turn into full blown rumour. I'm sure a lot of GM's bring up Hamilton in talks with Treliving and they talk about if he was available what would it take, ect and things never progressing further. It's no different than us here speculating all year about Mark Stone being available despite his few if any rumours he's ever been up on the block and for all we know may sign with the Senators long term.

Stone to OTT for 48th overall
..and yes, Hamilton is >> Parayko

Kyrou, he was the pick we gave up to get a year of Brian Elliott. If we could turn Bennett into him that would be pure wizardry. It would kinda be like trading Sam Bennett for Brian Elliott.

According to Arthur Staple of the Athletic, Tavares will meet with the Leafs, Sharks, and Stars for sure if he decides to use the interview period. Lightning and Kings are believed to be in the mix for the last 2 spots.
