There are so many options now.

Another possible way to utilize Neal is with Bennett and Jankowski:

Gaudreau - Monahan - Czarnik/Foo
Tkachuk - Backlund - Lindholm
Bennett - Jankowski - Neal
Dube - Ryan - Frolik

Almost every player is interchangeable and has several spots that could make sense.

We also have tons of C depth now, and will be vastly improved on the dot.
Monahan
Backlund
Jankowski
Ryan
Lindholm
Bennett
Czarnik
Lazar
Dube

can all play C if needed.

Dube Foo and Czarnik will likely split two spots between the three of them. If Dube doesnt have another great camp like last year Mangiapane will be in that spot. I think that Lazar and Hathaway won't be signed. Brouwer will get bought out next year. This year he will be a bottom 6 injury replacement.
Dube turns 20 in a couple of weeks. It is not realistic to see him jump into the NHL next year.

Jankowski turned 22 in Sept 2016 and played a whole season in Stockton.

Pretty sure that no one expects his Rocket teammate Kole Lind to be in the Canucks lineup to start 2018?

There's one related to arbitration - negotiating an arbitration contract gives you another window. I'm sure there's more specifics than that which someone can fill in on.

Maybe the third line, but the first line? What would make you think that? He hasn’t been a huge producer in the NHL, has good AHL talent, but isn’t exactly a rookie anymore.

He’s a high reward, low risk signing, but not a guy you pencil in on the top line.

Lindholm @ $5,000,000
Hanifin @ $5,000,000
Janko @ $1,500,000
Kulak @ $925,000
Back up goalie @ $725,000

Puts us $290k OVER the salary cap without moving anyone out.

My bet is a Brouwer trade or buy out.

Of course, the big factor is the Lindholm/Hanifin deals. Lots of room to make up $300k there and not clear anyone out.

Thanks for clearing that up. Who wouldn't want a 4.3 x 2 guy coming of a 10 goal 25 pts season where he was a -19 while playing on a line with Tkachuk?

Tkachuk was a drag on his stats that he won't have to worry about playing with this coming season.

If Ryan (playing on the 3rd-4th line) has as bad a 2018-19 as Frolik did in 2017-18 it will be considered a bad UFA signing.

Peters already talked about having him on the powerplay, and before Neal, the other option was Lindholm or moving someone to their off wing. So it's not out of the realm of possibility. I just figured they might try it. Same as they did with Ferland, just tried it. Can't predict chemistry.

I’m going with:

Gaudreau - Monahan - Neal
Tkachuk - Lindholm - Bennett
Jankowski - Backlund - Czarnik
Ryan/Frolik/Foo/Mangi/etc

Brouwer out

Wouldn't it be great if Bennett finally broke out. There's enough possible line combinations now that hopefully they find something to get him going.

On that note, here's hoping for world championship Backlund on the team this year. I think he's got more offense in him to show the Flames still. New linemates could help him with that as well.

If guys like Bennett and Czarnik break out, this team is going to roll 4 scary scoring lines.

A Brouwer buyout or trade makes a lot of sense. It would open up one roster spot for Lazar/Foo/Mangiapane/Dube/Hathaway to battle for.

This is the deepest team we've had since 08/09. That team was undone by injuries...but look at where we are today vs. then. We have prospects at every position that are NHL ready, and have real talent.

This is the most impressive roster (on paper) that this organization has had in over two decades.

It's hard not to be excited.

Many of us talked about how more forward depth enabling Backlund and Frolik to anchor a true third pair shut down was what we wanted.

In that vein:

Gaudreau-Monahan-Lindholm
Tkachuk-Jankowski-Neal
Frolik-Backlund-Ryan
Mangiapane-Czarnik-Bennnett/Foo

Makes a lot of sense. Tkachuk and Neal can carry Jankowski on an offensively minded second pair. Lindholm and Ryan could be somewhat interchangeable, possibly. Fourth line actually has talent.

Lazar
Czarnik
Foo
Dube
Quine
Mangipane

Will all be fighting for 2 or 3 spots. This years camp should be a lot of fun to watch.

I expect room won't be made immediately out of camp (like last year with Jankowski), but I could see a forward or two being moved before Christmas.

Duha wrote an article for the Athletic yesterday. In it, he inserted Czarnik on the top line in his first attempt at line combinations. He sees Czarnik as possibly a good comparable to the Hudler fit on that line.

this team better make the playoffs. This is probably the most talented team the flames have had in decades.

I can't even make line combinations because some guys that I put on the fourth line should be on the third line.
