That was the first movie where you saw a Star Destroyer as really intimidating and dangerous
they still disabled one with a couple of ion shots, and then used a little tugboat to gently push it into another, at which point they both crumpled like buttery pie crust. even the monstrous FO Dreadnought could not withstand the payload of a single small bomber. Imperial capital ships are just no good.
It sort of made sense within the Star Wars Universe where it seemed pretty clear that Imperial Engineers were...well, not all that good.
"Behold the Death Star! The most fearsome Battle-Station the Galaxy has ever known! But if I were you I would be careful with that little hole there. You really dont want anything getting in there.....that would be bad."
"Behold the Tie Fighter! A fast, agile fighter to strike fear into the heart of their enemies! What? No, it doesnt have shields. They are inexpensive and easily stackable so you can have lots and lots of them. No, they're not particularly good."
"Behold the Fearsome Star Destroyer! The backbone of the Imperial Fleet's mighty arsenal! But you might want to be careful with those enormous and fragile-looking domes that are precariously bolted onto what appears to be some pretty rickety looking scaffolding. Yeah, if anything happens to those preposterously fragile bastards you're gonna have a bad time."
Where did we find these guys?

Non-related Rouge One question....why was the Star Destroyer so white? It looked like a plastic model someone forgot to paint.
It was kind of intentional, when Lucas designed the ships for the OT he wasted their paint jobs to lack color or even vibrancy. He wasted Imperial Ships to basically look functional. so that's why the White color.
For ships like the Falcon and the ships of the Rebellion he wanted the ships to look wornd own and threadbare. Basically it was a universe run in a very dictatorial fashion where there was no joy or color or even pride.
then in the OT he wanted the ships to be painted and shiny and more art then anything else to show that the republic was this vibrant democracy where people were allowed to express themselves, then as the OT moved through you saw that Dull looking coming into play.
I still really loved the Venator class Cruisers, and I rank them right up there with the design of the Star Destroyers.
In the book Dark Lord the Rise of Darth Vader they have these smugglers seeing a Star Destroyer for the first time and their basic comment is
"It looks mass produced and doesn't have the artistry that the Venators had"

My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings;
My biggest issue with the new trilogy is that I don't care about any of the new "heroes". In the OT you got enough of a backstory for Luke, Leia, and Han that you cared about what happened to them. But with Rey, Finn, and Poe they have no backstory, and to me they're nothing more than filler. Hell I care more about Kylo Ren after watching TLJ and getting to see why he turned to the dark side, being betrayed by your uncle and jedi master has to really screw with your head
I was excited to hear about more spin-off movies and another new trilogy, but if this is the direction they're moving with the franchise (all flash and zero substance) then I won't bother with them

I could care less about Poe and Finn, although i liked Finn in TFA and it seemed like he might become heroic, then TLJ happened...
Rey was interesting, until we find out she's nothing and nobody and not important to the story (as Kylo Ren aptly states).
