Are there such things as twitter awards? This fire incident has been the first time I've ever really explored the twitter-verse and whoever is running the @RMWoodBuffalo account is a freaking super-hero. Timely, clear updates. Responding directly to dozens if not hundreds of information requests, and has been doing so for days now.
Whoever the person or team is behind that account deserves some serious recognition for their efforts.

Looks like "Saskatchewan day of caring" raised $641,110, which the Alberta government is going to match.
Not bad for a bunch of melon wearing, pilsner drinking, "worst fans in the world" Saskatchewanites eh?

In for $50. Not much but all I can afford right now.
Am looking forward to volunteering when the time comes. Does anyone know if there is anywhere in Calgary who needs volunteers for maybe separating foods and stuff like that before it gets sent to the evacuation areas?
A few more hot spots around Anzac and further east. The patch further east of Fort Mac has also grown. Fortunately no massive progression this afternoon.
High Level looks to have stabilized, so no image update.
I hit my breaking point today. Seeing, and re-seeing all the videos out there. Seeing the anguish and pain of those who lost their homes and livelyhoods. Seeing the outpouring of love and support from not just Canadians as a whole, but those across the globe from Australia, to the UK, to Japan, and China. Just knowing those families are out there, and their homes are likely destroyed, it just breaks my heart.

Disregard any and all THANKS I give. I'm a dirty, dirty thanks-whore.
I love all the posts from people who are like "Sorry this is all I can afford" or "I promise I will do better later". Give yourself a fricken break man, you donated, you did a good thing. Take some pride in that. Every little bit helps and there is no reason to apologize. Everyone is in a different financial situation just the fact you care enough to make the effort speaks to the type of person you are.

For CP Members from Fort McMurray who are now in Edmonton, PM me. Perhaps we can do an impromptu CP meetup and talk hockey and help you unplug for a bit.
Or to the extent I am able, I can point you towards resources to help you and your family.

x 2.
Everyone who donated or volunteered or supported is awesome.
I also like small gestures of vendors as well. I donated a bunch of Save On Food points tonight, and the people behind me did as well.

Been following the news and this thread from here in NS. Spent a bit of time in fort mac a few years back when I lived in Alberta. Just surreal and scary seeing the damage and all the YouTube videos but also inspiring seeing the way people are coming together to help.
I don't have a lot of money to donate but the generosity in this thread has made me want to help somehow. I lost my grandfather on Tuesday to complications from Alzheimer's. He was actually born in Calgary back in 1925. My family has agreed to ask for donations to the relief effort in Fort Mac instead of flowers or donations to the hospital or whatever it is people usually do. I'm not sure if I'll be able to find out how much gets donated in order to add it to the running total in this thread but just wanted to let you all know that the spirit of your kindness and generosity has reached this far.

A teenage girl from Fort McMurray was the victim of a fiery crash on an Alberta highway Wednesday afternoon.
RCMP said the collision happened between#an SUV and a tractor trailer unit on Highway 881 at Range Road 94 at Heart Lake First Nation shortly before 3 p.m.
Emily Ryan’s father is Cranley Ryan, the deputy fire chief for Saprae Creek in Wood Buffalo.
Stettler has been pretty incredible so far. The Ford dealership had a fundraisdr bbq today, bottle drives, cash boxes all over town, collection sites for people making a run up to highway 63, store donations such as Spetch's store and so on. Multiple families are coming into town from Fort Mac.
Tomorrow we are taking all our cans and bottles, cash donations, and extra diapers in.
A local fudge shop is donating half their sales to the cause, so of course I will be indulging there.
