Didn't he absolutely go two pointless games before his last little spurt? If so, that's 4 out of 11. That's a little concerning

That's a little concerning, really?

Put away the microscope.

It is what it is. He was drafted based on size, perceived skills but it was well known he was well behind most other prospects in terms of development. The Flames will likely take their time with him as we will probably see the top three guys drafted last year in the NHL before Jankowski.

Curiosity leads to questions. Smug authority leads to telling me to put down the microscope

I think(hope) it's partly due to moving back to center this year. Still a lot for him to learn at this level. Maybe(again hopefully) he's concentrating on learning the defensive responsibilities. For me he gets a little leeway as he has shown what he can do with some nice goals. As long as his point and goal totals increase this year, along with the switch to center, I'm happy.

I need to see him play some games. His coach endorses him vigorously every time I hear him interviewed, which is great, but his production doesn't seem to justify it. He certainly has a lot of raw ability and it is exciting to see some of the goals he is scoring.

In the end, we just have to be patient. We all knew that he was a long term project. Hopefully he just keeps improving and when he finally fills out that frame he may be dominant.

I think we forget that John Gaudreau is the exception and not the rule and expect all NCAA prospects to score at that pace.

The NCAA is a hard place to score for a guy who is still developing, and very young compared to his peers.

If Janko is in the 25 point range at the end of the year, that's good in that he'll be progressing a bit. Still needs to put on weight.

His linemates suck out there. If they were even average, Janko probably has 4 or 5 more assists by now. It's hard to gauge based off stats, especially when Providence would be one of the worst teams in the entire NCAA if it wasn't for Janko + Gillies (Especially Gillies)

Yet his teammate, Ross Mauermann, is one of the leading scorers in the nation, playing with these same crap linemates.

Jankowski has been hot and cold so far this year, hopefully when his next scoring streak happens it gets sustained for more than 2 games or so. I'm not saying he's playing bad hockey this season or anything, just that you can't blame his teammates on his stats.

Mauermann is the only player on the team with double-digit points. He has 18. The next closest player has 8 pts, with Jankowski at 7 pts. It should also be noted that Janko's 6 goals and 1 assist strongly implies his linemates aren't converting much.

I've seen a few games of his this season and he's looked pretty good. He still has a ways to go. He still loses a good amount of board battles, and gets outmuscled quite a bit, but as he continues to add muscle to that lanky frame these issues should diminish.

Mauermann's line is the top line. Jankowski's line is second or third in ice time most games.

Jankowski is third in points and second in goals on the third highest scoring team in the NCAA despite not getting top line minutes.

He would likely be putting up more points if he was playing on Mauermann's wing, but that wouldn't be what's best for his development if we want him to be an NHL centre.

Forgetting about the scoring, I watched him last weekend and he looked pretty average. He does have time to show more though.

Exactly, Mauermann is the only player with double digits points, meaning you can put up points yourself on that team regardless of your teammates. That's my point, thanks.

Ya I've been able to watch 2 games so far online and he's definitely looked good, he looks much bigger than last year, which is a really good sign, and is starting to use his size more. Still needs to be more assertive out there, which will come in time.

I have nothing against Jankowski's points so far this year. Just blaming it on him playing for Providence is not a good excuse.

ha, I need to start adding emoticons. I meant it as sometimes we put these kids under the microscope way too often instead of looking at the big picture. One game he plays amazing = omg! one weekend he doesn't get points = concerned etc.

Jankowski has 6 goals in 11 games, one less goal then he had in 30+ last year. the improvements are coming, that's a real positive.

With his 7th goal of the season Jankowski now ties what he had last year. 12th game of the season vs 34th

You are my favorite poster (no homo), but thought you were being smug. Now you get him to score so you can post this just for an "I told you so"
