I would prefer Nichushkin as well.
Bigger body, Right wing, and has been better at the NHL level.
That would be amazing if Treliving could pull that off.

I wonder if we could pry Guryanov instead of Nichushkin...

I believe in the Jays.

Same.
I'd take Nichushkin to be sure. But IMO he's not a "can't miss" young player and what the team would pay should reflect that.

I think Nichuskin would be available for alot less than what some posters have mentioned. I believe in the tree man, he will make all things right in the world come trade deadline day

Meh, he's not even guaranteed to come to the NHL. Nichushkin is here now.

I was excited about Nichushkin at first but looking at his stats they're pretty underwhelming for someone on a powerhouse scoring team...worse than Joe who everyone here seems to hate.

Nichushkin is 20 years old coming off a big injury. If you can get him.. you jump at it and don't look at it. If he hadn't been injured last year I doubt there's even a chance he's available.

Andy Strickland @andystrickland
#Flames and Kris Russell continue to talk...if traded chances are he goes to a team that doesn't have the cap space to re-sign him
Which hints that the Flames might trade him and then try to sign him back as UFA

I like the option, but I cringe at the thought of Russell getting 5 mil a season with the flames.

I don't get why they'd do that. I just don't think it's working out with him here and all I can think of is that song from the Frozen cartoon.

I whole heartedly believe this season for Nichushkin is an exception to the norm. I'd be shocked if he plateaued this early. It'll be all about getting that swagger back before he had hip surgery.

If there were that much uncertainty they wouldn't have taken him at 12. That uncertainty is how guys like Tarasenko, Kucherov, Kuznetsov went so late in the draft, now they're superstars.
I'm not saying Guryanov will be that good but I like him more than Nuke and he'd be cost-controlled for longer too as he's not a pending RFA.

Trading him at the deadline and then re-signing him this summer is the best of both worlds. Let's do it!

I was going to suggest that the Flames may be looking at Hutchinson tonight but leftwinglock shows Pavelec as the starter so to me this screams Russell to Dallas for something or another.

Re-signing Russell is not the best of anything.

Don't the Stars have a lot of cap space and even more this coming year? I think if he went there, they'd be interested in re-signing him. Maybe they're thinking another team...

Disagree. He's a great #5 guy and he'll fit great there long term if we can add another top 4 d-man. Hartley overplays him because we don't have better options at the moment.

Definitely a possibility, it was down to him vs Monahan for me and my buddies in 2013 before we decided we wanted Monahan. Just genuinely shocking to look up his hockeydb profile and see that he only has 6 goals. Gives me hope that the Flames won't have to give up a lot to get him potentially, especially if Dallas is frustrated with his progression/in win-now mode.

Russell is a great #5 guy but if he's looking for 5 mil it just won't work. I'd be all for bringing him back if the Flames can trade Engeland, Smid and one of Stajan or Raymond.
