I don't think so. He was probably going to lose his re-election bid in Indiana, and didn't have really anywhere else to go. I'm sure he wishes he was running with a less narcissistic candidate so that he wasn't spending half his time trying to explain Trump's messes, but I think he would have jumped regardless of who the nominee was. Self survival is what politics is all about sadly.

So what are the rules around replacing someone on the ticket if they resign post convention or is there anyway to kick them off?

Dealt with earlier; there is no way to kick them off but it sounds like you either have to re-convene the RNC (which is bonkers) or get the votes by proxy, which is probably what would happen.

If Trump is dropping out, a new Univision poll for Florida is probably why. Romeny, who lost a close race in Florida, got 39% of the Latino vote. Trump currently is polling at 12.9% of the Latino vote. So he has to triple his numbers with Latinos to be in position to possibly lose anyway. Wonder if he comes out tomorrow eating a taco bowl, playing futbol while wearing a sombrero.

Trump: "When I said "rapist", I didn't mean it in a bad way. Some of my best friends are rapists."

Trump: Rapists? I meant 'therapists'! A lot of people use therapists, some of them, I believe, are good people. The media really is, is really, very very dishonest, believe me! SAD!

I've officially stopped worrying about Trump winning the Presidency, and started worrying about how he and his hate-filled, paranoid, armed-to-the-teeth supporters are going to handle the loss. Given that he's already talking about the election being rigged, I'm going to guess it won't go down peacefully.
Wouldn't be the first time Trump attached his name to that sort of thing, either.

If I really dig into my imagination I could see a scenario where Trump continues in the race, goes through the debates and continues his current trajectory. In the meantime, more and more "mainstream" Republicans begin to denounce him. After the debates Trump steps down and someone like Paul Ryan is elected as his replacement. There isn't enough time to do a proper vetting and no time to debate. In the meantime, Clinton has been scrutinized for 20 years and is historically unpopular. Ryan (or whichever Republican is there) wins as America exhales in relief that they don't have to choose between Clinton and Trump. And the Republicans find a brand new way to manipulate elections.

I mentioned this on the last page, but I think in that scenario, Trump supporters decide on a conspiracy where the Republican establishment orchestrated this whole thing, and Trump probably can't help himself but continue to make nasty tweets about Ryan to reinforce those misgivings, and as a result the legions of Trump supporters likely stay home, making it a really tough uphill battle for the Republicans.

I think the voters would just see the GOP is utterly inept by that time, it could damage them for decades, not that there's a way out of this that doesn't do that anyway.

CNN is running a Libertarian Town Hall at the moment. Johnson and Weld are impressive.

Caught a couple of episode of The Circus, they have reporters and a political consultant following the campaigns. Quite interesting. Anyone else see it?

While speaking about the government's so-called "ransom payment" for the hostages in Iran, Trump referred to a video he'd seen of Iranian officials unloading the cash from an airplane. Journalists assigned to find the video online have thus far been unable to.
Which is more likely - that Trump made the video up, or that the video Trump saw was classified, and he's just leaked that information to the public?

It's probably on the same tape that had the Muslims in New Jersey cheering 9/11

I don't think Trump is privy to that kind of information at this point so it's much more likely that he just made it up.

The briefings themselves Chen described as a sort of presentation followed by a question-and-answer period. "It is, as I understand it, the same team of briefers from the intelligence community that prepare the briefing for the candidate" as those who do the president's daily briefing, Chen said. "But the level of detail as well as the amount of information covered is not the same. It is meant to be a background briefing more than anything else." The information that's presented is tailored to what the candidate would like to know; as you might expect, there are no handouts.
