Nope. I have no idea what Draisaitl's intentions are, regardless I am still extremely confident McDavid leaves.

I want McDavid to leave badly but when they hired his agent to run the team it was a strong sign they had a legit shot at keeping him. If Draisaitl extends I think it is close to a lock McDavid rides it out as well

Or else it was a strong sign that they were so desperate not to lose him that they would try anything.

That's my assumption as well. They just want to surround him with people he has ties to and that might make him feel bad if he bails on them.

I'm no insider like dissentowner, but I've always believed that McD would leave ala Tavares. I don't see him staying in any scenario.

I kinda hope Draisaitl stays and McDavid leaves. Let’s see Draisaitl try to carry them after getting paid $15M. Hes also a scumbag of a player so he fits that team like a glove

It's probably worth at least an extra $100M in endorsements for him if he plays out his career in LA or NY.

Imagine the buzz if Kings stole another generational player from the Oilers.

Plus he wouldn't have to live in Edmonton.

An extra $100M? Don’t know about that….how would anyone know? Bear in mind this is pissy Leon we’re talking about. Might not be the first guy Taco Bell wants to trot out there.

100mil in endorsements? He has the personality of a rock and the last generational talent (Crosby) earns about $4.5mil a year in endorsements. Considering he'll be 30 during his first season on a new team, he'd have to get $10mil a year in endorsements until he's 40.

I don't see it, even if it is LA or New York. NHL just isn't the money maker people think it is in the US in terms of companies wanting to shell out and attach their name to athletes. They want NFL and NBA players.

Hell, two of Crosbys biggest endorsement deals are Tim Hortons and Sport Check here in Canada...as a generational star on an American team.

Multiple sources have confirmed to THN.com that Pittsburgh Penguins superstar Sidney Crosby is on the verge of signing the richest endorsement deal in NHL history.

Crosby’s new deal with Reebok is said to be worth almost $10 million over the next seven years.

Sources say the deal is for between five and seven years and will pay him $1.4 million a season. That would make Crosby easily the highest-paid player ever in terms of endorsements.
Granted this was in 2010, but it still shows where the NHL is at in terms of endorsements.

Hockey players won't get endorsements of significance until a generational talent also has an unhockey level of charisma.
A US born generational talent with some swagger would change the landscape.

Maybe not $100M but I do think there would be bigger endorsements.

Similar to how Canadian Tire and other companies were trying to help woo Stamkos to come to the Leafs.

If he were to sign up for 29-37 years in Toronto...I'd guess he's getting at least another $2-3M per year in endorsements he's not getting in Edmonton.

Crosby isn’t much better than McDavid when it comes to marketability.

Both of them pale in comparison to Gretzky in this regard.

In his prime, non hockey fans knew who Gretzky was; even before social media. Non hockey fans have no idea who Crosby or McDavid are.

One thing about McDavid...is I actually think his on-ice play is more marketable than Crosby was. Crosby wasn't the most flashy, even in his prime. He has that Bure/Ovechkin level of flashiness in his play just due to the speed and pace he plays at alone. That itself is marketable.

The real problem with hockey is none of the major sporting companies really have hockey lines of business (Adidas, Nike, New Balance) so you're not getting those levels of sports endorsements.

McDavid already does alright, as he had CIBC, Canadian Tire, and Rogers as major endorsement deals, but I think you put McDavid in Toronto / New York / LA ...and those companies become even more desperate to keep him, and all of a sudden brands like Coca-Cola/Powerade , McDonalds and others might be more interested.

If Pascal Siakam can get a McDonalds national endorsment by being in Toronto, then so can Connor McDavid.

(As an aside I think people might be sleeping on the Rangers as a landing spot for McDavid...Panarin and Trouba both expire the same offseason...that would be up to $19M they could have set aside for McDavid that offseason)

He will go to Toronto. He isn't leaving Edmonton because it's Edmonton. He is leaving Edmonton because his hockey dream is to bring a SC to Toronto. Imagine if you grew up a die hard Leaf fan and you had generational talent and you could cement your legacy as the hometown hero that returned and brought back their first Cup since 1967? It really is the centre of the hockey universe. It isn't endorsements or finances that motivate McDavid, he is making enough money regardless. To be the guy that brings the Leafs their first Cup in over 50 years? That's where his heart is.
