Ovechkin putting 3 by them is just the icing on the cake.

The Oilers were looking pretty bad in the two weeks leading up the break. But they got points against weak teams.

I still contend that outside of McDavid and Draisaitl that the Oilers are expansion team bad, they really are.

And now teams are starting to ramp it up and the Oilers don't have the horses. They'll limp into the playoffs. They've built a big enough buffer for that. But the Caps are just huge steps bigger and faster then the Oilers who outside of McDavid aren't a fast or overly physical team.

Hoping they match up against the Avs in round 1 rather than a 4th date with the Kings. A heavy dose of reality is needed for that crew.

I see the Oilers got demolished again by a far superior team. Hilarious that these clowns are considered Cup favourites with how bad their D and goaltending are. Unless they end up playing the Kings in round 1, I get the feeling they’ll probably be one and done in the post-season.

Also, McDavid looks completely checked out already. Oilers media will say it’s just a 4 Nations hangover, but even during that tournament he didn’t look very good until OT of the final game.

If the Oilers can't finish this year and win the cup, their window pretty much slams shut, Bouchard no matter how bad he is, and he's not good, is still going to get a significant raise over his current 3.9 million, he's got the Oilers over the barrel in any negotiation.

With McJesus, his contract is up at the end of next year, he's going to be under tremendous pressure to get the largest contract possible and set the next bench mark. With the Salary cap going to 95.5 million next year, so McDavid could become a roughly 18 million dollar player I think.

Skinner is also up for a contract after next year, so he's certainly going to get more then the 2.9 he's playing for.

For next year with the 95.5 million dollar cap, the Oilers will walk in with about 18 million in cap space. needing to find or resign 7 players.

They also don't have great prospects nor trade assets.

The Oilers could be the greatest team that never was and have pissed away a ton of draft picks.

Man the Oilers are stupid! The score flattered them big time. Ovechkin should've had 5 or 6 alone, the Oilers 1st goal was a free PP(you don't say) when McHeadshot tripped over his skate laces and the nearest Capital half a mile away got an imaginary penalty. The rest were garbage time goals.

Also the 5th Caps goal at the end of the 2nd was hilarious. Three Caps were all alone in front of the Oilers net and passed it around for like 5 seconds with no coverage in sight.

Outscored 13-6 on the weekend.

Now, they go to Tampa, who have been surging as of late, then end the road trip in Florida and Carolina, where they can stare up at Stanley Cup banners won at their expense.

No Oilers were stars of the game today. How’s that possible? Was the game not on Sportsnet?

It's so good.

Klingberg just swinging his stick and following it where ever it takes him.
Nurse swimming and spinning in no-man's land.
McDavid defending from behind the net.
22 just cruising through with his stick on the ice like he's waiting for a pass.

PeeWee level breakdown.

I think the Caps player out front that needed to jump the puck, was in the best defensive position.

I can't stop watching it.

Trade deadline coming up, what aging forward are they going to pick up to bolster their defense and goaltending?

I was thinking exactly this while watching, I've seen Peewee players with better defensive awareness... that was absolutely comical.
