Summary for the Flames:
Depending on cost could add top-9 forward and a 3rd pair d-man
Once Flames found that the price for Ferland would involve a 1st, they decided to pass until further notice.
Flames aren't flaunting their 1st but would move it for Stone
His opinion: Flames should look at Nyquist or Johansson
Said it before, saying it again. I'd try to frame up a deal for a package of Nyquist and Howard.

Waiver wire Smith.

How can they do that? Who is going to take either one of those guys?
If Frolik and Brodie/Hamonic are moved...maybe. This is what the team would look like, bolded numbers are speculative:

Gaudreau (6.75) - Monahan (6.375) - Lindholm (4.85)
Tkachuk (8) - Backlund (5.35) - Stone (8.5)
Bennett (2.5) - Jankowski (1.675) - Neal (5.75)
XXX (1M) - Ryan (3.125) - Czarnik (1.25)
XXX (0.8) XXX (0.8)

Giordano (6.75) - Kylington (0.730)
Hanifin (4.95) - Hamonic (3.86)
Andersson (0.755) - Valimaki (0.894)
Stone (3.5)

Rittich (3)
Gillies (0.75)

Brouwer (1.5)

Total: 83.4M

One guy I don't hear mentioned as a potential rental is Jakob Silfverberg. Pending UFA on a team that has given up. I think he'd fit in great on the 2nd line.

I am only interested in Stone if BT can get permission to talk to his agent and see what it would take to extend him. No interest at all in paying a big price for a rental. The window is not closing after this year, no need to overpay at the trade deadline for a rental.

Ana is trying to re-sign him.

eklund beating the Zuccarello to flames again. While i don't believe anything on that site , i would really like to add him. Even though he is small , he plays big. He goes into the dirty areas. He reminds me a bit of Byron. A little less speed, but better hands.

Interesting. I don't know where Anaheim is going as a team. They need to rebuild their forward corps. Stuck with Kesler, don't think they're likely to get rid of Perry, and wonder what the plan is for Getzlaf and if he'd waive his NMC.

Speculating that he might be involved in a potential deal for Panarin and Bobrovsky
What would this deal look like?

Luongo, Huberdeau, 2019 1st, 2020 1st (2nd?) to Columbus for Bobrovsky, Panarin?

$10M+ in salary going out, but close to $20M coming in for Florida.

2 guys that could potentially fetch 1st round picks this TDL, but there has to be salary moving out. Huberdeau could likely catch a 1st on his own too so does that cancel something out? Tough one to figure.

Wilson is suggesting Jankowski, Czarnik, 2019 first-round pick, 2020 second-round pick and Kylington for Stone, using the Karlsson deal as a template

not to mention a number of deals after the season in order to free up the cash to resign Stone...
I’d do it.

I’ve also suggested Kylington, Dube, Frolik and 1st

Trading Brodie in the offseason allows to get under the cap

Leaves us a little thin at the bottom of the lineup having Gillies, and 2 league minimum contracts but it’s doable

The Senators said that there would be no news on Stone's status re-signing until about a week from now, no? I don't think much big happens until then. I am certain Tre is figuring out how to get Stone before he moves to a Plan B in someone like Zuccarello (a solid Plan B).

Am I the only one who 100% would not want Gillies on this roster for a playoff run ? I’m sorry but I am not sold on that kid at the moment and think he has lots to prove before he turns into the player he is supposed to be for the Flames.

I think if there is anyway we can swing a deal for Howard it is the ideal situation between cost and experience.

I don’t think they have given up forever.

Flames last year weren’t trading away assets deemed part of the long term
core.

I would sooner have Jon Gillies on the NHL roster right now than Mike Smith.

Jon Gillies was a better NHL goalie in 2018 than Mike Smith, and I don't put a lot of stock into goalie stats in Stockton this year. The Heat are a tire fire this year.

Why on earth would Florida trade all of that when they already have a great chance at signing both in the off season.

I'd go straight to plan B. The cost would not be worth it, especially with this team not yet being playoff experienced and the flight risk. The only exception would be if Stone had expressed interest to his brother that he would be interested in re-signing or something.

As I'm some have pointed out previously, teams that have won in recent years were never the ones to make the big sexy (insert Chia face) deals, but solid secondary moves.

It's really not. Basically the same top 9 as now, but trading Frolik for Stone. Dube or Lazar could easily slot into the 4th line.

Valimaki, Andersson, Kylington are inexperienced, sure, but all really strong players.

The Flames top 6 would be absurdly dangerous.

I watched the Heat's highlights over the weekend, they won, but the goals Gillies gave up were terrible. Wouldn't blame the defense on both goals.

Don't know what happened to the kid but his confidence is shot.

The holes are the problem

Gillies is worse than smith, so you're talking about ~30 games of league worse goaltending.

The third line as it stands right now needs to be improved, so coming back with the same guys I don't think lights the lamp.

Kylington is playing like 10 minutes a night right now, I don't think he's suited to top pairing minutes at all. Asking top 4 minutes from him next year is probably a stretch.

Czarnik with a defined roster spot is bad IMO. He's worse than Mangiapane.

Just don't like it at all quite frankly.

Just going off the idea that Huberdeau would factor into a trade, so it sounded like the speculation from TSN is that they would trade for the players rather than wait it out. Also I wasn't sure of the Panthers cap situation going forward.
