Gritty win today for Spurs. Playing without VDV, Crouch, Modric, Bale, etc., and still able to get a win in a stadium they haven't had a lot of success in.

Absolutely shocking penalty from Dempsey. Justice I feel because it was a complete dive to win it in the first place.

Hopefully you're right.
If a new, mega-rich owner bought say, the Kansas City Royals and tried to turn them into instant World Series Champions, they would become the CFC of baseball.
Terrible (no) business design; crooked, thieving Soviet owner; small fan base; terrible ground; little to no history outside of the past 5 years; d-bag players. What's to like?

People keep saying that Chelsea has no history, but I don't understand how a club that's been around for 100 years has no history.
I'm not a fan, I just don't get why people keep saying this. Can someone shed some light on this?

think they had 1 league title and 1 fa cup in the first 100 years
they were more known for their 'firm' and hooligans up until probably the early 90's
they have no real intense derby on the scale of the Manchester, NLD, Merseyside, Second City, Tyne-Wear, Steel City etc.
or even a big rival like Liverpool/Utd, West Ham/Millwall, Leeds/Utd
And their 'fans' at the games really only became fans in the last 10 years when Roman bought the team and it became posh to be seen at Stamford Bridge. The real fans were priced out and only people from the upper class neighborhoods (Chelsea/Kensington)

I can't recall how many hollywood celebrities I have seen on the tele taking in a Chelsea game at Stamford Bridge. Popular place apparently. Not enough horse races in England I guess.

CFC saw a resurgence of sorts during the swinging 60s as well. In terms of locations within London, it is probably the nicest and the most 'posh' which has meant that it has attracted some high-level celebrity supporters that live in the area. I think that Sean Connery, Steve McQueen supported them in the 60s and Dickie Attenborough was Director for a few decades.
Fulham is located nearby but hasn't had the 'glamour' appeal of CFC. Arsenal, the Yids and especially West Ham were/are too working class and too far out (Central London) to attract celebrity supporters.

Hmmm, not sure that's fair really. Both Arsenal AND Spurs are more expensive teams to watch. The interest in football in the affluent areas of West London is practically zero. Of course there are quite a few bandwagoners.
Arsenal for example draw heavily on the Islington set and have a large support in the nearby hipster areas of fashionable fans with tons of disposable income. Which is why they can charge over 2k for some season tickets. Going to the Emirates is great, the football is fantastic but that place really has no soul.
Ugh, defending Chelsea. This feels horrible.

Saw this article a few years back. It highlights the 10 worst football grounds in England. Priestfield Stadium in Gillingham is the worst one. Stamford Bridge comes in at 10. Here is what is says.
'One of the most mean-spirited,unfriendly and scruffiest stadiums in the land. Not scruffy in a wholesome way, like Goodison Park for example, but in a an extremely tacky, cheap, classless way - a £2-for-a-Mars-bar way. Where do this mob get the brassnecked spivvery to charge visiting fans £52 (Manchester Utd) and £48 (Newcastle)for a view not dissimilar to watching the match through a letterbox? Standing is a necessity. Truly a cesspit of everything that is crass about twenty-first century football.'
'You can't enjoy a game there because you're overwhelmed with the sensation of being ripped off. Foul people.'

Lots of those old stadia have character (soul) but are usually wretched, terrible places to watch sports.

More bad news for Newcastle.

Jose Enrique has confessed he would be open to a move to Liverpool or Manchester United after revealing he has been the victim of broken promises at Newcastle.

1-0 to the Arsenal. Potentially costly victory with Fabregas and Walcott injured.

On a positive note though, Charles N'Zogbia claims to potentially be available....
