Penelope Cruz just keeps getting better looking. My own personal Sophie's choice would be if I had to pick only one of Salma Hayek or Penelope Cruz. There is no right answer for me.
HTTYD developed great characters, took risks with them and told an original story (even though it's based on book as well).
And the score. The music is definitely my favourite animated movie score ever, and ranks highly in my top 5 overall. Somehow it didn't win that Oscar either.

I really enjoyed Toy Story 3. I just didn't think it was as original as How to Train Your Dragon.

I havent seen HTTYD so I can't really comment on that, but to compare the first movie in a (potential) series to the 3rd in another and say the 3rd isn't as original, well of course it isn't. And that also depends on your definition of original.
Are the characters original? Well yeah actually they are, its the same people who created those characters years earlier. Just because we're seeing them again doesn't mean they're not original. And that doesn't count the new additions they bring in that seamlessly work themselves into the plot (all the nursary toys). I also think the story for Toy Story 3 is very original, even though it includes the same characters, the situation is not the same. The first two are far more closely related in terms of story. And as for risks, I think Toy Story takes huge risks with a lot of its characters. Making someone like a big pink fuzzy bear and recognizable toys such as Barbie and Ken the bad guys is a risk for the filmakers and the companies giving the rights to their toys. Also spanish Buzz could have came off hugely racist (ala Transformers 2), but they made it tasteful and hilarious.
Anyways, thats my spiel. I really love Toy Story hehe.
But there has been a lot of praise for HTTYD, I should really check it out.
You know, this is a movie I wish they would have just trusted audiences with. The story is cool as hell, they didn't need to create a character to insert Keanu into it. Oh ... and monsters too.

I love Toy Story too. It single handedly created the digital animated movie industry and raised the bar for story telling in children's movies.
My comment about originality was more a reference to HTTYD not winning the Oscar when the third movie in a series did. Toy Story 3 was great but it was only able to pull at your heart-strings and make you feel the emotions you did because of the 15+ years of history it brought with it. I would argue that HTTYD was able to accomplish the same emotion through its story and animation with only a single movie. Which is why I think it should have won the Oscar.
Although my kids liked How To Train Your Dragon when it first came out, I find that it doesn't have the same "re-watchability" as the Toy Story trilogy does. They will more often than not walk away if HTTYD is on now but the Toy Story movies still get them to sit down and watch again.
As a parent, that's all I'm looking for in a movie somedays.
