Is the Chris Simon thing being reported in the media? Lot's of people of Reddit saying that they are from the same town as him and it is the talk of the town right now. I hope it's mistake.

Apparently maybe it is, sadly.

I have yet to see media sources but Mike Commodore posted about it on X

The hard part would be getting Ottawa to do it, not Calgary. But living here I can say for sure that there is incredible public pressure to be good now. They have 4 seasons left of Tkachuk and nobody in Ottawa thinks if they run back this current group they will have a chance at the playoffs next year. They have 3 more years of Batherson on a killer deal.

There will be big changes in Ottawa this summer and I suspect they will be moving heaven and earth to get a top pair right dman. A decent argument could be made that the Sens have a top 3 in the league left side of their defence and a bottom 3 of the league right side of their defence. Rasmus immediately changes that. Moving Branstrom/Bernhard Docker down to third pair rather than having one of them always playing top 4 minutes changes their backend.

I am not saying it is likely but that is a team I would be looking at if I was Conroy.
Good reason to be looking at them as a trade partner. If their pick is potentially on the table, it would be a great move to make something work around that. Conroy could use combinations of Coleman, Mangiapane, Andersson, Markstrom, and Vancouver’s first round pick as potential pieces to hopefully get a pick in the top half of the first round. Obviously not all of them would be traded in a single trade but putting retention on players like Mangiapane or Coleman could add value to those players that makes a team like Ottawa better right away.

Seems kinda random... seeing as not a single reporter had any inklings of LA during that whole fiasco.

sec was hinting at something before the deadline with his "Gone in 60 Seconds" gifs

Movie was based in LA, so some of us thought maybe that was the hint.

OT, but NJ and Calgary do not have "similar climates".

ya, I don't buy that either, maybe him and his agent thought NJ was closer to competing the next few years?

Absolutely, and the travel schedule being much better playing in the East. Those two things would make much more sense.

Only way he blocks it, is a big “F U” to the upper management who asked him to waive for NJ and didn’t follow through. I mean spite is fun.

I bet he has seen the data that says he is a perfect fit for Jersey. That probably also matters to him. It would for me.

Just because I would love for the flames to be aggressive at the draft this year… who says no in these trade proposals:

TRADE #1:

To Ottawa:
Andersson
Coleman (40% retained)
Vancouver’s 2024 first round pick (29th overall)
Calgary’s 2025 second round pick

To Calgary:
Ottawa’s 2024 first round pick (5th overall)
Pinto or Norris

TRADE #2:

To New Jersey:
Markstrom (50% retained)
Calgary’s 2024 2nd round pick

To Calgary:
New Jersey’s 2024 1st round pick (10th overall)

RESULT:

Calgary gets to pick 3 times in the top 12 and potentially comes away with a center (Catton or Lindstrom), a defenceman (Yakemchuk) and an Iginla (Tij). Calgary also likely puts the nail in the coffin of their defence for next year by trading Andersson so they likely end up picking in the top five for the 2025 draft when combining that with trading Markstrom. This sweetens the deal a little for Ottawa because that 2025 second round pick from Calgary could be a good one.

I’m sure the obvious answer I’ll get to “who says no” is… Murray because of all the salary retention I’m putting in. But I think it would take a lot to get either of these trades done especially since Fitz will likely think he’s solved his goaltending problem with Allen now and it’s almost unheard of for a team to trade a top five pick even if Ottawa is desperate to start making the playoffs.

My opinion is that, sadly, both Ottawa and New Jersey say no to these trades. We all hope for big trades at the draft but it is so rare these days. That’s when picks are at their highest value and players under contract are at their lowest value. Would love for it to happen but I imagine any trade with either of these teams would be for picks in the 2025 draft instead.

^ The first one is close, but I don't see CGY retaining ~$6M on Coleman. I missed the 2nd, so I think it favors Ottawa. That said, I doubt Ottawa is ready to give up on either the 1st, Norris, or Pinto in a trade this summer. At the same time I'm not sure how high Ottawa is on Norris right now. He looked like a stud, 1C, 2 years ago, but his progress stalled due to injuries. Norris is 24, and is overpaid at $8M for 30P in 50GP.

I think it's a lot more likely that Ottawa moves one of Chychrun and Chabot, and uses the assets to get a RD, or signs someone like Tanev in the offseason. Meanwhile a team like Carolina would be a better fit for Andersson.

As for the 2nd trade, I don't think it's nearly enough for CGY to trade Markstrom.

Those are both a no from the other team. You're not getting the 5th overall pick from Ottawa, let alone Pinto or Norris on top of that.

And Jersey won't give up 10th overall if that's where they need up picking when the season ends.
