I think 3 seasons are required to qualify for an NFL pension.

You dont have to play a set amount of games but must be dressed for a set number to get credit for a full year.
.
It's one area where the zNFL has really stood up and made a lot of changes for the better for ex players.

So someone like Rourke or any QB that doesn't play regularly is nowhere near the NFL pension program and it wouldn't be a deterrent from trying to entice them to the CFL.

Randy Chevrier kicked around the NFL for 3 seasons and never got a pension (his kid has played lacrosse with mine for years) because he didn't get into enough games. I'm not sure if today he would have qualified under new rules.

In order to be considered a vested player, the player must have been employed by the league for at least three years. The league also has a vesting period, which is the amount of time a player must be employed by the league in order to be eligible for benefits. Players who meet the requirements for vesting are considered “vested players.”

Players who have not been employed by the league for at least three years are considered non-vested players. Non-vested players are not entitled to a pension or annuity. These players may be eligible for a lump sum payout, but the amount will be significantly lower than a vested player’s pension.

To be accredited you have to be on the active roster for 3 consecutive seasons, or on IR, PUP or released due to injury. Does not say practice roster.

So I guess he gets no pension unless he is on the roster. Seems like he is kind of wasting his prime years chasing something that likely isn't to happen.

If I remember correctly, I think Dickensen was like 1 game short of being eligible for an NFL pension. I feel like I heard that years ago.

Sounds like he's coming to that realization lately and will likely be back with the Lions. Sucks that an elite QB is coming back but rejoining a top tier CFL team rather than helping to elevate one of the junk teams with QB's tossing 20 yard muffins all game.

While he keeps getting cut, he keeps finding work shortly after. Good for him although I'm not sure how long he will stick with the Falcons.

Dunk is reporting it is a 1 year deal worth $915,000. Easy to see why he's not coming back anytime soon.

And it looks like BC has lost Vernon Adams for a while, that didn't look good.

Oh man that's not good at all. Bad for the Lions and bad for the league. I guess Dolegala is next up.

Behind Cousins and then the 1st round pick they used on Penix? Maybe they need a QB to run the scout squad.

I attended a Dallas Cowboy's training camp as an observer.

The third string QB's job is to know the playbook, help warm up the receivers. And he runs the scout team, that's it, he doesn't get a lot of time running the team offense, he might get a situational snap. Or if the starting QB needs to go to the bathroom.

But the benefit is that the third string QB is still getting quality position coaching, which could benefit him in the end.
