Yeah, big ego to start.
Five years ago the guy got tons of praise for being the anti-Steve Jobs. He's definitely blurred that line in recent years.

He's supposed to be a brilliant mind, with his legend leading to his company making progress in whatever they do, fast. Plus anything he says shareholders tend to buy in. The guy has sway, there is no doubt. Does the company need him? I'd argue 99.9% yes. If they don't have him they'd never get funding on be on the map as a tech company with clout. But the guy definitely needs to be taught a lesson with the SEC the way he conducts himself.

Honestly fleury, I think most of what you say there is past-tense. Tesla once needed Musk, particularly to get the credibility and financing. But at this point, his increasing instability is rapidly making him a detriment to the company. It's likely not long before his presence begins to harm the company's credibility. And at a time where Tesla finally appears to be a profitable company, he's becoming dangerous.

Tough to say if they need him or not
They probably don't need him to continue with their existing vision - much like Apple has been able to do without Steve Jobs
But what these guys bring are the game changing concepts - whether it's their ideas or they are just the guys with the ability to get them implemented - they are the ones that keep this companies one step ahead of the competition

I didn't think about it in future terms, true, so you're right. I just think that there's so much support on the stock price based on who he is. Now that he has more money to play with in a profitable business, I'd like to see how he handles it (though I've never considered investing in TSLA).

What are people's thoughts on the likelihood of the Fed going negative?
I've been seeing posts on Twitter that it's starting to get priced in.
This will be very bad for the banks won't it?

I don't really follow interest rates much but you can tell a bit from the bond market. The TLT shows sentiment in the overall bond market...when it goes up, rates are generally low or heading lower. And vice versa. March was wildly volatile. We've been heading lower since mid April indicating a raising or steady interest rate. We're at a fairly critical upward trend line now so the reaction to that line should indicate future movement.

Powerplay Quarterback
|
Question for the day/swing traders.
Anybody else use Questrade? I want to sign up for Webull, as it's zero commissions and allows full pre market and after hours, but doesn't appear to let me as I'm Canadian, and it's only US. Any other suggestions for a low commission broker? I typically make at least 5-6 trades a day, so low commissions is important. Pre market and after hours would be a bonus too, as Questrade limits my time in both.

I use Questrade, and to be honest, I don't really like it. It's hard to track changes, moves, set up DRIP, buy things other than stocks, and the fee isn't that low. It's also kind of a pain to set up. The interface is wanting, they used to have a computer application but it has since disappeared. The app is fine.
But it's good enough I guess. I would also be open to other alternatives.
In other news, apparently Elon Musk is threatening to move his company to Texas.

I use Questrade. I find it extremely easy to use. Granted, I don't day trade, but I purchase ETFs a couple times a year. I really like the program.

What's the backstory? I'm assuming it's currently in California? What are his reasons?

I’ve begun handling a portion of my RSPs via RBC Direct. It’ll be a minuscule portion until I put enough in the account, starting from scratch. $250 auto deposited semi-monthly.
I’m not necessarily looking for investment strategies, more like purchase strategies. Should I buy twice a month? Once a month? Once a quarter? $9.95 per trade. No admin fee since it’s a sponsored acct.
Most likely ETFs for now.

Ive been using questrade for a while (5 bucks for 500 share or less trades). Most ETF's buys are free.
If Its a 9.95 buy, then you will need to weigh the gains lost against the trade fee. if its $10 trades and you are investing in an ETF that will get you say 10%/yr avg, and you are putting 500/month in, then you will need to invest about $1000 every 2 months to break even with the gains lost. Thats probably what I would recommend. Obviously if you want to check the markets once in a while and there is a dip then you could put in earlier.
Also make sure you are putting into a TFSA account if you arent already and look at apps that gave free trades or at least buys for the ETF you are buying.
I have a TFSA through questrade but am setting one up through wealthsimple as well for even cheaper trades.

I was hoping RBC would have some free ETFs. Haven’t looked into it yet.
No TFSA in this account. This is just group RSP money. Everything else is already managed.

Also seemed to react to Faucci's senate testimony.
