Well, I think we can all agree on one thing.
It's time to shut the site down. It's the only rational solution.

Dude, you made quite the accusation.
You can continue to swirl in your own smugness or own it. Up to you I guess. Looks to me like you've chosen your path.

Good plan.
Find another level of condescending.
But you're right no loss of life, loss of respect for sure, but no loss of life.

To be fair, loss of life would be pretty intense. Even for Calgarypuck.

Further, you can replace the coach AND move players. You don't even have to do it all at the same time, you can start looking for a new coach right now and trade players in June, or July, or August - after you've consulted your new coach on what kind of players he wants on his team. If procrastinating is your process, your process is wrong.
Time has value, and it's better to make a sub-optimal decision quickly than the optimal decision when it's too late. There are 30 other GMs competing for the same resources you want, so if you can't make decent decisions on the basis of incomplete information, the guys who can are going to crush you.
So either fire the coach in the next week, or keep him for next season, but the worst decision you could possibly make is to keep him around (like Hartley) into May. If you don't already know if he's a problem - you're also a problem.

Wow, great post. Very eloquently stated and could not agree more. I tried to say something similar a day or two ago but it was a meatball ham fisted attempt at the English language.

How well connected Friedman is or is not is dubious at best at this point. The case could certainly be made that he used to be in those circles, but not so sure these days. Regardless, media speculation is pretty meaningless considering the state of hockey journalism today. They're blindsided all the time. Why should it be assumed they won't be this time?

I don't buy the improved play 5 on 5 for One. Single. Second. Every single D-man except Dougie has had decreasing point totals under Glen Gulutzan. Everyone. And we're talking -20% to -70% production here.
Yes, I get it. Tonnes of shots, slow puck movement and few odd man rushes leads to LOW SHOOTING PERCENTAGE and HIGH POSSESSION NUMBERS so the Corsi Crew blames the players, because we can't just take it at face value right - the coach is coaching this team in a wrong way. Of course the Gaudreaus, Monahans and the Tkachuks can still score - they are talented enough to "survive" in such a system. Backlund, Frolik, Bennett etc can not.
Now I'll be the first to admit we need scoring in the top nine, preferrably a R-shot, but this team is going nowhere with GG.
Defending Gulutzan with secondary stats is pretty much polishing a turd. It's like defending Trump by saying well at least the stock market is looking strong, or using any kind misleading narrative. It's not there. It never was - the secondary stats are what they are because the team plays a certain way, not because they are actually playing well, because they aren't.

Pretty compelling arguments from both sides I gotta say. I'm pretty torn.
All I know is if Gulutzan stays and this team doesn't move forward, and/or we start seeing some stupid "Marc Savard-esque" trades in an attempt to fix this mess I am ####ing out for a while.
I'm literally at the point where I almost get no enjoyment from following this team anymore.
Not only do I have to watch a stupid expansion team play in the NHL playoffs instead of the Flames, but I can't even look forward to the entry draft this year.

I hear ya. The Knights are a fun team to watch, but their instant success annoys the hell out of me. Especially since it feels like we've been waiting an eternity for the Flames to ice a competitive playoff-caliber team. It just feels really unfair. I'm extremely jealous of that team right now.

They have a good coach, good GM, and balanced roster.
Flames have an entry level GM, fingers crossed coaching decision that is being given a second and maybe last opportunity rather than reflecting a threat to the GM, and a roster with reclamation projects to lead the youngsters.
Good on them for getting it right the first time
